r/MechanicalKeyboards on Reddit: How I designed my analog hall effect keyboard PCB and case
December 20, 2020 -

I haven't posted about my analog hall effect keyboard recently so I made a quick video to go over how I made the PCB and it also covers a bit of the case design:

https://youtu.be/QgS4bTM0DH8

The keyboard uses 3D printed magnetic separation + levitation switches that are inherently hot-swappable since they're entirely contactless. Another interesting feature is that they don't use any springs at all and simply use the magnets themselves to provide both force and (extremely) tactile feedback.

The keyboard will also use my magnetically-stabilized stabilizer design that was featured in Hackaday: https://hackaday.com/2020/08/20/print-your-way-to-keyboard-stability/

The switches are parametric and can be customized to your heart's content. Want long travel or short? No problem: That's a parameter. Want a stronger or weaker switch? Also a parameter! Larger or smaller magnets? That too is a parameter!

The switches use a regular Cherry MX cross mount so yes, it's compatible with regular Cherry keycaps.

I'd be happy to answer any and all questions about it!

Magnetic Switch Keyboards: From Origins to the Future – MelGeek
January 6, 2024 - In contrast, magnetic switches employ magnets on the switch, with a Hall sensor on the PCB detecting the magnetic field change when a key is pressed. This signal is then relayed to the processor, initiating the key action.

Magnets? In My Switches??
This “pushing” of the current of electrons via the magnetic field from the magnet is quite literally known as the ‘Hall Effect’ and is what Hall Effect PCBs are designed to look out for. Rather than just completing or breaking a circuit, the PCBs in Hall Effect keyboards are programmed to constantly sense how strong the current of electrons is affected by the magnet, with a pre-programmed force being chosen in the PCB’s software as the point of actuation.

June 6, 2024 - Overall, my gaming experience was pretty good with all of the keyboards, leaning towards Keydous and ReDragon due to the nature of the switches used there. I’d perhaps even say that, to my surprise, I liked ReDragon probably the most. But you need to remember why, which I explained in the review. Additionally, I never had any issues with responsiveness or Rapid Trigger implementation, even though the PCBs used in all of them are not the fastest out there, with ReDragon and Irok being slower around 40 ms than Wooting’s PCBs.

November 29, 2024 - The Boog75 utilizes magnetic hall effect switches from Gateron, specifically the KS37B model, representing an enhanced version compared to the switches Higround incorporates in its performance 65 keyboards. While it offers hot-swap functionality, the compatibility range for other switches is somewhat restricted. Double-raile gateron KS-37B switch · One more shot · The socket on the OEM PCB ·
