Why should you get a MagSafe battery pack?
Which MagSafe battery pack is right for you?
Will a MagSafe battery pack fit the iPhone 16?
I'm in the market for a MagSafe battery pack for my iPhone and feeling a little overwhelmed by all the options out there. I'm looking for something reliable, efficient, and ideally not too bulky.
What are your experiences? Any specific brands or models you absolutely love (or hate)?
Looking for the "best" in terms of:
Charging speed
Capacity vs. Size
Durability
Value for money
Any extra features (like pass-through charging, etc.)
Hey r/GalaxyFold
I got tired of the wildly inaccurate capacity claims from MagSafe battery pack manufacturers and the constant gamble of whether a new pack would actually fit my phone case. So, I went down a bit of a rabbit hole, bought 14 different packs (including a ridiculous Haribo-branded one for a laugh), and decided to test them all.
My goal was to find out two main things: what's the real capacity behind the marketing, and how well do they fit with a couple of popular case styles for phones with larger camera bumps?
This is my first time doing a big write-up like this, so please bear with me if the formatting isn't perfect. I welcome any and all constructive feedback in the comments! Let's get to the data.
A Quick Note on Efficiency & My Testing Method
Before we dive in, let's talk about efficiency.
Wireless charging (MagSafe/Qi2) is only about 60% efficient, with the rest lost as heat. So, a 5,000 mAh pack should deliver about 3,000 mAh... IF the packs didn't lie about their capacity.
Wired charging is much better, at about 80-90% efficient.
Because of the misleading advertised numbers, I performed a wired 100-0% discharge test on each pack to find its true capacity.
My (non-scientific) wireless charging test was done as follows:
Case: Generic AliExpress MagSafe case.
Conditions: The phone was placed face up on my bed with the battery pack underneath it (pack touching the bed). The screen was on the entire time running Battery Guru, at about 1/3rd brightness.

⭐ My Personal Favorites ⭐
Baseus PicoGo 5k: My top choice for a daily driver. Even with a lower actual capacity (2200 mAh), its compact size, amazing grip, and super-strong magnets are unbeatable. It's also one of the few 5k packs that fits my generic case.
INIU ultra slim 5k: A very close second. It has one of the highest true capacities (3200 mAh) of the 5k bunch, is quite slim, and has that cool-as-hell lanyard that's also a built-in USB-C cable. A fantastic all-rounder.
Summary / TL;DR
Advertised Capacity is a Lie: Every single battery pack tested well below its advertised mAh. "5000 mAh" packs ranged from 1500 to 3200 mAh. The "10000 mAh" packs were a wide spread from a disappointing 5200 mAh to a more honest 6100 mAh.
Case Fit is Crucial: For cases with a continuous camera ridge (like many aramid fiber/Thinborne styles), most flat battery packs will not fit. You need one with a smaller footprint (like the Baseus) or a raised MagSafe ring.
Top Picks:
For Everyday Carry: Baseus PicoGo (best grip & magnet) and INIU 5k (highest 5k capacity & clever cable).
For Max Capacity: iWalk 10k or Mekiki 10k. Both are true ~6000 mAh packs that fit all cases tested so far.
Notable Mentions:
The Joke Entry: The Haribo 10k pack underdelivered significantly on capacity (5200 mAh) but does fit the generic case. Buy it for the memes, not the performance.
Avoid: The LISEN Ultra Slim due to its painfully slow charging speed.
Coming Soon: I will update this post once the Thinborne case arrives and I've had a chance to test compatibility across the board. Stay tuned!
