See, I can't stand the look of all 3 of the vanities you linked - I see those here ALL THE TIME (more often than ikea vanities) and it makes me want to rip my eyes out, too. I just think theyre so incredibly ugly. However, I love how white Ikea Alex pieces look. I don't think it's a matter of a lack of creativity -- just a difference in style and taste. With a growing collection and a longtime obsession with makeup, I’ve needed a place to showcase and do my makeup for years. The MICKE workstation from IKEA was a perfect fit for my room and only took.... 7 gruelling hours to put together. It was so worth it though to finally have this. I’m still waiting on my LED lights for the mirror to install it front-facing in the corner, but I’m so, so pleased with how this turned out. I know this is such a petty, stupid complaint/rant. I know it before I begin. Bear with me.
But every time I see that stack of white drawers with a table on top and a "hollywood" style mirror, I want to tear my eyes out. Is that really the best setup ever? Can we not think of something more creative, or are all our creative juices going towards our makeup (totally legit if this is the case). I've been looking for some good pieces lately for my makeup area expansion, and I have said to myself over and over again: I will NOT buy those stupid fucking white drawers/desk with that stupid mirror. I am not twelve. I am an adult. I am messy as shit and will never keep it clean. I will also not paint it teal (WHYYY?!) It's not that I don't love IKEA as much as the next girl, but this is what everyone uses, and I feel like there's got to be something better.
Okay, rant over.
Anyway, to turn something productive out of this rant here is the thing I HAVE been looking at. It's so fucking expensive, but it might be worth it. Lots of storage and a place for my jewelry. Hecks yeah.
I also really like these two. I had also been thinking about a corner set up a la Kathleen Lights, cause I really dig that, too.

I think it's representative of the user base, which skews kind of young. I don't have a vanity myself and probably never will because I'm only going to move from here to something even smaller. But here are some styles that I like. Most of these would require an additional mirror or storage but I prefer having different components rather than all-in-one. I like the idea of using a desk rather than a cutesy vanity, but I've included a few different types. I also want to say that I think IKEA can be great and isn't just for college kids in dorms. I especially like mixing it with other pieces or making my own modifications. Space-saving: Abbot Drop Front Desk (there are a lot of secretaries out there, and I love them all so I just included one) Walnut Alden Foldout Convertible Desk (I was trying to think outside the box with this one! It would need a stool and maybe a storage cart, but I think it could be useful for someone who has very little space. Desks Terrace Desk (A bit on the large side, but how glamorous would your makeup look on it?) Heston Mid-Century Mini Desk (Small, but still offers some storage while being stylish) Industrial Storage Mini Desk (For those preferring a more industrial look) Black Craft Desk (Simple craft desk that utilizes storage space on the side) Vanities Walnut Brown Kari Vanity (A bit old-fashioned, has storage built in) Emilee's Vanity (Your typical cutesy, vintage vanity done right) Abigail's Mission Vanity (Standard vanity but with crisp lines instead of swirls and curls) Hawthorne Vanity (Slightly more substantial vanity with a few different finishes) Storage Related (I am listing a few things here but really this is where the most flexibility is. You can find great storage options almost anywhere, for not that much! IKEA is great for this and it doesn't have to be plastic tubs. Carts on wheels, canvas boxes, acrylic organizers, the sky is the limit!) Martha Stewart Craft Cubby Organizer (There are a lot of options out there like this one, just posted this one as a possibility) Wood and Metal Numbered Desk Cubby (Another more rustic option) Becker Drawer Cart (Standalone drawers for all your preciouses) Wood and Metal Frederick Cart (Another type of storage cart, just to give examples of what is out there) Studio Craft Cart (Slightly different cart with more open storage; the large open space looks like it could be good for storing a mirror; I'd do trays in the paper slots that I could pull out) Studio Craft All-In-One Craft Center (Makeup is a craft too, right? Why not utilize all that storage space?)
