June 21, 2020How do you manage service accounts passwords?
CyberARK is really good at managing built-in windows features like service, app pools, scheduled tasks, etc., but a decent number of them require someone to log into the application. We use CyberArk as well for tracking service and application accounts. Talk to your security group and explain what is needed to update/rotate passwords for the non-Windows services. The application owners (various sub-groups in IT that support different parts of the business) have access to view the password and trigger reconciliation (change the password). We have some oddball password policies for various applications (like the one that cannot have "!","=", "<", or ">" in the password) to be applied to applications if needed. Application owners are responsible for scheduling password rotation at least once per year. We started out with a few accounts being used anywhere and everywhere and have been slowly breaking them out into dedicated service accounts. It is defiantly a process. Pushing ownership "down" to application owners and empowering them to change the passwords helped a lot. More on reddit.com

Uhhh I think the better question is why would you do this? What value does it bring you by managing this. I’ve been managing macs for 10+ years. I have a massive fleet of macs. Not once. We fv2 encrypt, escrow the key and call it a day. At the end of the day the data is the most important thing. As long as an adversary doesn’t have access to your data that’s your most important thing. Is having a firmware password going to get a computer back if stolen? No… More on reddit.com
