Maple Springs road offers a fun, relatively easy route with scenic views of the Cleveland National Forest. Vehicles should have some ground clearance. At the end of the trail is an elevated patch of asphalt that appears to be a helicopter pad.

At the peak, adventurous Crosstreks are rewarded with views of the Pacific Ocean and Catalina Island as well as Mt Baldy and Lake Elsinore, sometimes even great cell reception! The trip is divided into two parts: Maple Springs Road [MSR] (5S04) and North Main Divide Road (3S04).

Maple Springs Road starts as an extension of Silverado Canyon Road and climbs gently but consistently over 7.7 miles to North Main Divide Road. The road is mostly dirt or doubletrack but is paved in places.

At Blackstar, the limited-use road to Santiago Canyon is blocked by locked steel gates. Also, watch your speed on Maple Springs. There have been serious accidents on the road.

June 15, 2023 - Yeah you should be good. The road isn’t that bad. If it sucks it’s wide enough to turn around and there are plenty of turnouts. To get to this dirt road, you will need to drive through beautiful Silverado Canyon 6 miles until you reach the gate which stays open most of the year unless weather restrictions apply. Approximately the first mile of Maple Springs Road is paved, then as the road turns to dirt and rock, the scenery gets better and better as you pass huge pine trees and after you get to a junction known as Four Corners, you begin to have stunning views.
