Reface stone fireplace with tile/marble?
Well you need to attach a cement board to the wall to put down tile. I guess you could attach to the stone but I wouldn’t like that. I bought 24x48 marble tiles, cut them in half and I'm putting them in between the blue tape in the picture which will then be covered with a mantle I've already built. We were going to have someone cut and install marble remnants but they wanted too much so I went this route but have a few questions:
-
Should I use quickset or silicon to attach the tile to the wall? The person who quoted us said they'd use silicone but I thought that was odd.
-
Where the bottom wall tile meets the hearth tile, should I use caulking?
-
Do I need to seal the marble even though I don't think they'll ever get wet here?
-
I'll be putting a tile identical to the bottom one in the first picture above the fireplace opening. Any tricks to get in up on the wall? There won't be anything below it supporting it.
Thanks for the help!
