Opinion: B.C. maintains high tax rates despite prosperity gap
as noted in a study published by the Fraser Institute, B.C. had the fourth-highest top combined (federal and provincial) income tax rate (53.5 per cent) among 61 Canadian and U.S. jurisdictions in 2023 They're only referring to the HIGHEST income tax bracket, which doesn't even start applying until you're making over $250,000/year. If you make an average income BC actually has some of the lowest income tax rates in Canada, we pay fully $1500 less per year in income tax here on $85k of income than someone earning $85k in Alberta pays, and $1000 less than in Ontario. Given that BC has low income tax rates for people making less than $100k, I figured this was going to be propaganda aimed at reducing tax rates for the rich. And it is. This is propaganda. Marginal Tax rates

People that don't understand this don't care about the numbers, they already made up their minds and refuse to listen to anything different. They willfully choose ignorance because it allows them to feel like they are smart. This makes them extremely vulnerable to manipulation and misleading information since they will choose to believe what sounds good to them over anything real or factual.

When does BC tax have to be paid?

Along with your federal tax, BC is owed by April 30, 2025. If you or your spouse or common-law partner are self-employed, you have until June 15 to file on time. Again if this date falls on a weekend, the deadline moves to the next business day. However, even if your deadline to file is June 15, you’ll need to pay any tax you owe by April 30.

BC Tax Brackets 2025
Are BC tax brackets incremental?

Yes, BC tax brackets are incremental. The more you earn, the more tax you pay on that additional income. Incremental tax brackets mean that those who earn more pay a higher percentage of their income to the CRA. A uniform tax rate would mean that everyone, no matter their income, paid the same percentage. That leads to high income earners paying a relatively small amount.

The marginal tax rate is the tax rate at which you pay taxes on the next dollar of income earned.
