r/Weddingattireapproval on Reddit: Burgundy vs. Wine
June 8, 2024 -
I have been invited to a fall wedding where the attire for all guests is “formal - must be maroon or burgundy. Nothing that resembles purple or wine.” This confuses me because to me, wine is burgundy. Would this dress work? If not, can someone please explain the difference??

Send your regrets. It's fucking obnoxious for brides to demand their guests wear a certain color palette, but to demand a specific shade of one color? Oof.

Burgundy IS wine. Your SIL is nonsensical and sounds impossible to please. If you feel bound to go, I would send her pics of potential dresses beforehand to mitigate the risk of her pitching a fit.

Any other deutans find burgundy and maroon very easy to distinguish? I hear from some people with normal color vision that the two colors are too similar, and they can’t tell the difference, but to me they look pretty different. Burgundy looks like a significantly more vibrant marron to me, just as different as periwinkle and aqua or even more different looking than olive and brown. I was curious if these colors somehow have more contrast to us?

Maroon is warm toned and burgundy is cool toned. That's how I see it.

People use the same color name for different colors. Like maroon for example, some people call dark red maroon, while others will use the word for an even darker red. Its like saying light brown. You cant point at one color. Its 100 different colors.
