My license expires soon and I’m a little confused about some parts of the renewal process. Do I need to do both a criminal history record check(CHRC)and fingerprinting? Or do I just need to do the CHRC? Also, if anyone has any recommendations on affordable places to get this done please let me know. Right now I’m looking at the MVA and it’s $80 there. If anyone could point me to a private provider that does background checks that would be great. I know some people get their employers to sponsor license renewal but I’ve only worked 40 hours as a CNA and I’m currently unemployed. I plan on applying to PCT jobs and some don’t require a CNA license while some prefer or require one. So I’m not counting on getting my renewal sponsored. Also, idk if it’s just me but I feel like the licensing/renewal process is so tedious bc of all of these outdated sites and half of these fingerprinting businesses don’t even have the price listed, you have to call and their business hours are only 2-3 hours out of the day☠️.

The renewal process is pretty tedious without endorsement. I read on the Maryland BON website that you’re required to send fingerprints to the CHRC. “The Board recommends that you submit your fingerprints for the CHRC no earlier than six (6) weeks before the date you intend to complete your INITIAL license or a RENEWAL application. The Board is only authorized to retain CHRC information for 90 days. If the CHRC is over 90 days, the applicant will be required to contact the Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) at 410-764-4501 to have the CHRC resent to the Board.” Their email is [email protected] . Perhaps you should contact them directly for clarity on your situation.

I was born and raised in MD for 22 years until moving out to CA and becoming a CNA out here. Let me just say the renewal process out here sounds infinitely easier. No finger prints needed after you get it done during your CNA program. All I had to do to renew was CEU's and fill out a basic paper for renewal. And because of Covid I simply did all 48 CEU hours online which was long but easy. Whereas without Covid you are required to do 24 of the 48 hours in person in a classroom setting. And that was it...48 CEU hours, renewal application, then wait.
