I read an analysis online where someone had done a bunch of tests between the two - sorry I didn’t save the link but it may have been here on Reddit. If I can remember it did vary between countries and at different times but on average the MC rates were something like 0.3-0.6% better than VISA. I could be wrong. More on reddit.com

They all have their own exchange rates, you can find them online if you google. So if you use say a Visa card... the visa exchange rate that day will be used. More on reddit.com

Just wanted to add to this because it looks like the accepted answer is now out of date.. They appear to have a Currency Conversion Calculator SDK for various languages. Have tried it out, and it appears to do the job!

Now that Fidelity Visa Sig has no foreign transaction fee, I am wondering how Visa vs Mastercard stackup for the conversion rate that they give you when the card is 0% FTF.
On Quicksilver (MC) the currency conversion rate I get is extremely close to the real time quote I see on xe.com. It's 1.5% cashback vs Fidelity Visa Sig's 2% cashback. I buy a good amount online from Japan and hence I was wondering if Visa has a similarly favorable real time foreign transaction conversion amount to USD or if it's worse than MC.

Nerdwallet did a study on this in 2016.
