Other than the cooking classes, almost none of the MasterClass classes are hands-on. Most of them are just fancy TedTalk. Although very interesting, they are primarily lectures rather than hands-on experiences. Answer from xdrolemit on reddit.com

Hey everyone, just wanted to share my experience with the Master Class series.

Since the pricing is a complete scam I checked out them torrents and got access to every single Master Class for free. My intention was to check if they were worth it and pay for them, but after viewing one and then checking another to see if they were kind of the same bullshit, I actually ended up checking most of them.

After many hours I can now confidently state that most if not all of them are just scams. No more than basic interviews or celebrity idolatry ads. They don't teach much, it's just a 200$ "course" of someone saying what they did on an extremely high-level low resolution detail, which results into a basic interview.

Seriously folks... don't be dumb, just go on youtube or do a 2 min search on Google, you'll get more value out of that free stuff than any of this crap.

You can thank me later :)

Like, it sells you this big “transform your life” dream, but then the reality is basically an outdated Netflix layout with a kinda boring workbook attached.

I was surprised by how flat it felt. Beautiful production, sure, but I expected something more immersive or structured.

For anyone who’s used MasterClass before, I’m really curious:

  • Did you actually learn anything meaningful?

  • Did you finish any classes? (I started one series and forgot about it like 3 days later 😭)

  • What surprised you—good or bad?

  • What did you wish MasterClass would do? (I was thinking it would be fun if they actually had tutorials??)

  • Or did it eventually grow on you?

Just trying to understand how other people feel about it because right now I don't understand the hype

Hello,

I am a complete beginner to programming and the world of CS, since I'm majoring in it next year I wanted to get a head start and learn programming, I bought Tim's Complete Java Masterclass about a month ago and have completed 15-20% and became quite bored of it, is CS50x a better source to learn the fundamentals of CS and programming and overrall a more fun experience?

Which is the best resource as an intro? I'm also considering the Helsinki MOOC.

Has anybody paid for the subscription to Masterclass and found their experience worth the fee?

I've seen snippets (mostly what Masterclass advertises) of Neil Gaiman's workshop... Margaret Atwood, Malcolm Gladwell, Joyce Carol Oates, etc. but it is quite expensive. (for me anyway)

What do you think?

Hi! I want to learn ecommerce.Do the classes on Masterclass actually teach you at least 1 ecommerce, social media marketing, or digital tool to do anything?

I feel like they're just talking and talking, and not putting their hands in action, at least in some courses, not all.

For example, the music ones, do they go over hardware set=up and do they teach you how to use it, or is it theoretical and not hands on? If it isn't hands-on, then it's basically the same as many college courses, it's all chit-chat and no real life use-cases.

Update: I'm checking CretiveLive and Skillshare yearly subscriptions, $99 per year and $129 per year, respectively. MasterClass is just the most popular of this kind of learning model and apparently, it's not even that in-deep for the most part. Even Garry Kasparov and the poker guys seem to have put more actionable content, and it's just to play a game, compared to the masters in other topics at Masterclasses, lol

Has anyone taken these? Have you found them helpful and worth the plan?

I’m looking to get a subscription as I want to watch some of the Daniel Negreanu/Phil Ivey classes but it’s sooooo steep! Happy to £ if it’s worth it but honestly I only really want to study these.

If you’re only planning to watch Daniel and Ivey’s classes, honestly, MasterClass probably isn’t worth the full price. The poker courses are entertaining and give you a glimpse into how these legends think, but they’re more like inspirational conversations rather than deep, structured lessons that will drastically improve your game. Think of it as watching a beautifully filmed documentary rather than a real training program, If you want you can get 50% off from HERE . That said, MasterClass does shine if: ✅ You enjoy learning a variety of random subjects (cooking, filmmaking, leadership, writing, etc.) ✅ You see value in being inspired by world-class experts rather than just learning hard skills ✅ You can get it at a discount (Black Friday is the best time!) or share the membership with someone But if you’re after serious, step-by-step poker training, you’ll get way more value from dedicated poker courses or even free YouTube content. There are platforms designed specifically for poker strategy that go much deeper. Also, a fair warning from some users: be mindful of the auto renewal. Always cancel before the billing date if you’re unsure, and keep proof of cancellation to avoid any issues. So my honest advice? Wait for a big sale (sometimes it’s as low as $5/month). Binge what you want in the first month you can always cancel before renewal. If you want a true poker education, consider specialized poker learning platforms instead. TL;DR → MasterClass is like Netflix for inspiration & beautifully made, fun to watch, but don’t expect it to make you a poker pro. Wait for a sale, binge Negreanu & Ivey, then cancel.

Feel like some information is going over my head especially with public and private classes, inheritance and OOB, so I decided to get a master class that had good ratings overall, have heard some advice that you don't need it since practice makes perfect, but am finding it hard to practice when I really have no sense of direction with ways to improve.

If it's worth it, is there any specific courses I should take to better enhance my c#? And would it be useful to branch out into HTML or Java for CMS considering my course includes building databases as well? Are there any free tools also that might help since I am pretty conscious about spending also

r/learnpython on Reddit: Masterclass or Bootcamp? (Jose Portilla)
May 20, 2022 -

Hello people,

I've been looking into courses on Udemy as I'm interested in learning python and then some data analysis/science. I'm going to take the "100 days of code" as it comes so highly recommended, but I'm thinking about taking one of Jose Portilla's alongside it.

There appear to be two with very similar names:

"Python for Data Science and Machine Learning Bootcamp" is the most popular with over 100k reviews.

"2022 Python for Machine Learning & Data Science Masterclass" looks awfully similar but I never hear anyone talk about this one, and it has far less reviews at just over 7k. It also appears to have more material (44hrs vs 25hrs).

Does anybody know the difference between the two/which would be better for me to take?

I'm also open to any alternative suggestions/advice, the only thing I know for sure right now is I am taking the 100 days of code.

I went to college for photography/ art and they really don’t teach you anything you can’t learn on your own. My suggestion would be to go to a local library and check out as many photography books as you can including photographers whose work you admire. Train your eye, study composition and take lots of photos. YouTube has tons of resources for photography as well. I don’t even worry about gear anymore it’s a waste of time for what I do, I just try to work on my style and take as many photos as my computer and memory cards will allow. Just my opinion

It really depends on how you learn. If you like a class structure, some of the highly rated UDEMY courses are great for total beginners. They take you through the exposure triangle, and basic photography concepts. If you're very new, I think they're a great place to start. Just wait until they are on sale, they go on sale a lot. I've read quite a few books as well. Use your library, and inter library loans. It's a great resource. Youtube can be good as well, but you have to dig around more. Also, there are a lot of really mediocre photographers that talk like they're great on Youtube, and they are not. It's a real mixed bag. Personally I like to combine all of those sources. I really liked "Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Peterson. See if you can grab it from your library. I liked it enough as a reference that I bought it from Amazon. That will walk you through the fundamentals very well, and is an easy read. Good luck!

r/Advice on Reddit: Would You Use a Platform for Learning Through Micro-Videos and Mentorship?
November 26, 2024 -

Hey Reddit!

I’m building a platform where you can learn new skills through short, expert-led micro-videos and connect with mentors to collaborate on real projects.

The idea is simple:

Quick learning: Bite-sized videos to teach you actionable skills.

Portfolio-building: Collaborate with experts and showcase your work.

Networking: Connect with mentors and like-minded learners to grow your skills.

What do you think? Would something like this help you grow your skills or career?

I’d love your feedback—what features would make you want to use this?

Thanks for helping me shape this idea!

r/cipp on Reddit: Highly recommend CIPP/US Master Class on UDEMY
April 5, 2025 -

I am currently a law student studying for the CIPP/US as I am interested in practicing privacy law upon graduation. To that point, time is not something I really have to spare, however, the CIPP/US masterclass has been very digestible despite my busy schedule. For those considering getting it, I highly recommend it. I take my test in a few weeks and I feel confident that this course will adequately prepare me for the examination. Luckily my understanding of the legal component is proficient so I do not have to spend as much time there, but for those w/o a legal background, it still is very useful in the way in which it teaches how the law impacts this industry. Happy studying and wishful passing to all :)!
