Ranking system and cost/gain math - Where are you gonna hit your own cap?
Fully agreed. I was just doing some math myself. 210 points are available every match if there are no respawns and nobody goes over the 5 kill limit (and all 3 members of the champion squad are alive at the end). Obviously, neither of these things will ever happen, so I’m just gonna say they’ll cancel out for now. Even if they don’t quite exactly cancel out, it won’t be significant. It cost 0 points for bronze, so literally even the most potato players will get out of bronze. The total cost for silver games is 60 points, so nearly everyone will get out of silver. You have to place outside the top 10 with no kills in like 75% of your games to not get to gold. The cost is 120 points in gold, so again well below that 213 number. Even platinum is only 180, so theoretically average players can get to diamond with enough games played. Like you said, diamond is where it finally starts to matter, as it costs 240 per game, so you need to be above average to get to apex predator. Moral of the story is, if everyone played enough games, everyone could be diamond or above, which is ridiculous. In most games, diamond is top 5% or so, or sometimes even less. In this scenario, the average player will be able to get to diamond. Ranked is supposed to be hard, that’s the whole point. Also I don’t understand why different ranks cost different points. That’s not how ranked systems in any games work. If you are playing in a bronze match and you’re diamond skill level, you will be winning a lot of those games, therefore gaining more points. If you are bronze skill level, you will not be gaining many points, because you’re already where you belong. Right now, the worst players in the game will get to silver, and can get to gold quite easily. Damage dealt needs to be a metric and the points need to be heavily adjusted, specifically the costs. All tiers should cost the same and the total cost for a match should be roughly 210, maybe slightly below. My mistake, on the number, yours is right, I added an extra top 3 slot by mistake so I was 21 over. So 189 if there are 57 kills and 191 if there are 59. More on reddit.com
Here's some math on ranked.
the longer this season goes on for the harder it becomes to get top10 I had 14 teams alive circle 3 closing yesterday. in fucking Silver More on reddit.com
S17 Ranked: Doing the Math
I think the issue isn’t that respawn didn’t consider the numbers, but that players like progressing. I love the more competitive ranked system where I got hard-stuck and worked to progress, but most players didn’t and went back to pubs. This system is designed to maximize engagement and the only way it changes if engagement goes down. More on reddit.com
