Hubby and I are looking at making this our next mattress. We currently have a regular king size but it needs replacing(crappy S mattress). We constantly rotate it to even out the “ridge” and I am wondering if 2twin XL mattresses would be better?

Anyone have any experience with one?

Anyone here actually have a split king mattress? If so I am looking to hear about your experience with them? Was the space/gap in between the mattresses ever an issue or annoying? Do you wish you would have a full sized king?

We are worried that maybe it won’t be so enjoyable as it sounds, considering the gap in the middle. And also we feel like it might make it hard for our children and dog to sleep with us from time to time or lay down in the same bed as us and watch movies.

We are also interested in getting the split king bases as well. Right now we are looking into both the Tempurpedic and Sleep Number models.

Any feedback would be great. We don’t want to make any mistakes the first time around, considering the price tag!!!

Hi there! My husband and I are really struggling with sleep lately. Context: We’re 27 years old, married for 2 years. Currently have a queen hybrid mattress that has been great up until the last couple of months. All of a sudden I’ve started sleeping horribly and I’ve become really sensitive to my husband’s movements waking me up CONSTANTLY. I’m waking up anywhere between 7-15 times in one night and I’m exhausted. We’ve resorted to one of us sleeping on the couch most nights because we can’t take it anymore. It’s so sad because we miss each other and value sleeping in the same bed for the daily connection it provides in our relationship. We’re now seriously considering a mattress upgrade because we’re desperate.

My biggest concern is movement transfer, so I believe a foam mattress would be best. A split king sounds ideal since that would reduce movement transfer the most, but I’m worried about the crack in the middle of the 2 mattresses. We definitely use the center of our current mattress for cuddling and “other activities” regularly, and I’ve read some reviews about the crack being an issue. I’ve also seen people get things like a foam crack filler, a band that holds the 2 mattresses together, and retaining bars to keep them in place. We’re willing to get all those things if it helps. Ugh I feel like we’re too young and too newly married to get a split mattress lol 😭

My concern with a regular king size foam mattress is that it might not reduce motion transfer enough to improve sleep quality.

Other considerations: we’re mostly side sleepers but occasionally sleep on stomach and back. Both average weight. I prefer mattresses on the medium to firm side because I have back and hip issues.

Wife and I got a King size Purple RestorePlus Hybrid that we love. However my wife is a back sleeper and prefers 'zero g' on the adjustable base, I'm a side/stomach sleeper and prefer flat.

She wants to trade in for a split king (our base is already split) but I'm hesitant. Our kids and dog often climb into bed and lay between us, and I'm worried about the crack between the two mattresses gobbling them up.

My wife thinks the crack isn't an issue and the bed would still feel like a single king. Anyone have input?

Can someone explain king split mattresses to me, I thought this was straight forward but I must be missing something.

What I think it is: So the basic idea seems that you have a king mattress where you can have each half be different. Firmness being the #1 thing. I've seen some examples where it's two completely different mattresses just next to each other.

I guess first question, is there a split king mattress that just looks like one mattress but internally are two different ones? One side firm the other soft.

My next question is when purchasing I never see an option to choose each side of the mattress. I would think there would be an option to configure both sides.

I feel like I'm completely missing something, and you know as a introvert millennial I decided to ask a bunch of random people in the internet rather than to walk into a mattress firm and talk to a sales rep.

Background: Me and my partner have been using a soft mattress for a while now, they love it but it's been such a pain for me. I really want to go back to a firm spring mattress or something close. We initial tough of a sleep number since that's their whole advertising each side chooses their firmness. Then I came across the concept of a split mattress and touch that would be a simpler solution to my problem.

We're shopping for a high-end, king-size bed. Think Savoir, Hästens or ViSpring.

Especially with Hästens, I have the impression that salespeople recommend split mattresses rather than a single king-size mattress. There's no real price difference either way. One reason I was given is that you have two sides with different firmness, which we don't need. Another reason I heard was that due to the smaller size, split mattresses are easier to lift and flip, which is needed periodically especially with the use of natural materials that need a little extra care.

I personally like the idea of a large mattress that is not split in the middle. But the point about flipping and regular care made me think. And what if I sleep in the middle of the bed by myself - would having a gap there not defeat the purpose of the cushy custom-fit bed? There's gonna be a topper on the mattress, but still. Yet most of the salespeople seem to try to push the idea of split mattresses. Any thoughts?

I'm shopping for an all latex bed and considering the adjustable base, but unsure what to get.

I'm planning on two twin mattresses with a foam bridge and a wool topper so we can customize our sides of the beds, plus it seems like it would be easier to flip/move if needed.

With that said, do you recommend the split base, or the regular king? Pros/cons of each?

We are looking to get a split king adjustable bed. My fiance moves a lot in his sleep and sometimes snores and I’m a light sleeper, and I cannot do memory foam it’s way too firm for me so we want the split king. I’ve looked up countless brands, every brand seems pretty good and then I see threads saying it’s the worst mattress/company of all time. I’m going insane trying to decide on one.

Sleep number is the only one that I can’t generally find terrible reviews for - most people seem to like those beds for a long time or so it seems. Main downside being how pricey it is. Anyone have thoughts on sleep number split king or any other brand recommendations?

We got a split king Dreamcloud mattress and really hate the full split setup with a huge canyon sized gap in the middle.
We are thinking of returning it and replacing it with a split top mattress as we need the adjustability for my wife's heartburn but we are thinking the split top (flex top) style will be much better as at minimum the beds will stop sliding apart all the time.

I am having a really hard time finding split top king sized mattresses. Figured I come here and see if anyone has some recommendations. Our budget is 4k for the mattress.

Do you use two sets of twin xl sheets OR just a king split set? Trying to figure out the best course of action. My husband and I are fully opposite sleepers. He lays flat, needs a fan and can't stand to have blankets touch him. I prefer legs up head up with a down blanket. But we also don't want to be a foot apart. Help!!!

I am looking to replace my aged King. I am thinking to get an adjustable base 2 twin xls and I like a more plush mattress but my wife likes a firm mattress. I am thinking of either silk and snow, hamuq or logan and cove. Most of these if I get different firmness levels the mattress height changes. Any thoughts on how to get different plush mattress and not have an inch or two of mattress height difference. Lol I am already a bit worried about the gap.

My husband and I would like to upgrade to a king with an adjustable base. I was thinking of doing a split king so either of us can incline without bothering the other person.

For those who suffer from PLMD and have the night time leg twitching, I’m curious how many have had success in not interrupting their partner’s sleep when switching to a split king bed setup (2 twin mattresses pushed together in a king bed frame), or if the only way to truly avoid disturbing them was to go the route of two side-by-side twins in separate twin bed frames.

My initial thoughts is if the mattresses are pushed together, any movement is likely going to transfer from one mattress to the other, so the split king may not work, but I’d love some feedback from those with first hand experience.

Right now we’re in 1 Queen and it’s not working.

I'm purchasing an adjustable bedframe and the local shop has the exact same model for the exact same price only difference is there's the option to have the frame as a split king synced together or a single king frame. We already have a novaform king size 14" foam mattress we love and are going to keep with no immediate plans on going to a split king.

My question is: Is there any disadvantage to using a split king frame that is synced together over just a one piece king frame? Google is no help.

My thought is that by having a split king it would be a little more sturdy as I am a rather large guy. Also if we ever wanted to go to a split we had the option or if we wanted to move the beds into a guest room it could be two twin xls.

Hi, all!! I had what I thought was a smart (but most likely lazy) idea and wanted to get your thoughts. I currently live on the 4th floor of an apartment building with my fiance. We just finished moving (again) and have decided it's time to replace my old full mattress.

We both have different sleeping preferences: I think memory foam is fine, she wants something much firmer. I sleep on my side/stomach, she sleeps on side/back. The plan was to get a queen mattress and call it a day, but then I saw Split Kings and thought (1) that's much easier to take up and down stairs (moving a full was difficult to maneuver) and (2) we can each get what we want.

Finally, we're renters and have a history of moving a lot (we may need to move overseas temporarily). I'm fine getting a nicer mattress, but would like one that isn't a pain to move and love the idea of 2 smaller mattresses. No interest in adjustable bed frames, just the mobility and customization of 2 smaller mattresses over 1.

However, I've seen a lot of complaints about the space between (cue Dave Matthews) and wanted to see if the forum could talk me out of doing something dumb before I do it.

If we don't get a split king we're leaning towards an Avocado Green Queen.

We’re trying to decide between a split king vs a flex top adjustable mattress.

I think I understand the pros and cons, but wondering about actual experiences.

In my mind pros of a full split: -fully independent adjustability -no need to buy the special flex fitted sheets

Cons of a full split: -the gap, the gap, the gap -making the bed is harder

I was surprised how far apart the mattresses actually were in the showroom. It seems like there have to be ways to better bind them together in the middle without changing the functionality of the bed.

For us, the gap isn’t an issue for intimacy or bed making, which seem to be the two biggest complaints. But I wonder about feeling the edge more than you expect, if that makes sense.

I like the idea of fully independent adjustability, as I’ve had pretty severe lumbar back issues and being able to sleep with knees raised a bit seems like it could be helpful. That said, I have no idea if I would actually use it in practice.

I’m also somewhat picky about sheets. Adding in trying to find flex sheets in the style and color I like seems like a total pita.

Any input would be very appreciated. Any pros/cons I haven’t thought of? If you’ve tried a split and hated it, are there bridge options which made it better? Do people use the foot adjustability?

We recently ordered a king Saatva classic for our primary bedroom. We have the same mattress in our guest room in a queen. Had it for about 5 years and we use it pretty regularly because my husband often works off hours and so I often sleep in there to avoid being disturbed.

It’s been 16 years since our existing king was delivered. I recall it was tricky to get it up our stairs but they were able to do it. It is a traditional pillow top innerspring mattress. The queen mattress (also upstairs) was delivered and set up with no problem.

Well, the mattress was delivered today and they couldn’t get it up the stairs. The delivery guys suggested that I talk to Saatva about getting two twin beds or I imagine either two xl twins or a split king.

How viable in that option in terms of comfort and stability? Saatva is supposed to call me to figure out our next steps. I already have a new Saatva mattress pad I was intending to use on the bed but no topper (and would prefer to not use a topper).
