Help in coding qualitative data please
Typically you would start by creating a codebook that organizes the information in themes to answer your research questions. Revise your codebook after coding 1-2 transcripts to include any emerging themes from the data.
Usually, multiple interview questions will fit underneath a research question. That research question will have a theme. I find it’s easier to group codes under a theme vs by interview question. Answers can cut across RQs. But, it’s more an art than a science.
With a large amount of transcripts, it can be helpful to include a binary Yes/No subcode so tallying responses is quick, but look ahead to analysis. If you have tons of codes with few n per code, answering your research question will be more difficult. You can always add codes if you notice people are speaking to a new topic.

Hi folks!
What are your recommendations for qualitative analysis software? I’ve heard good things about Nvivo and MAXQDA. If there is an open source version, that would be ideal, but I’m open to suggestions!
