Words are better than a formula for this: List the numbers in order, smallest to largest. If there are an odd number of values, the middle number is the median. If there are an even number of values, the average of the two middle numbers is the median. More on reddit.com

If you know the distribution that the data follow, then you could do some quick algebra and probably derive the standard deviation, but if I came to you and said that the mean is 2 and the median is 3 with no other context you wouldn't be able to calculate the standard deviation.
