By default, they should work together just fine. People often mess up using IE's wires by using Relays (which connect multiple wires together, but don't interact with the block they are attached to) instead of Connectors (only attach to one wire, and input/extract power from the block they are attached to). The other possibility is that Mekanism's Config has the "RF" conversion disabled. Mekanism actually uses its own internal power system; J for Joules. By default is has conversions to/from Forge Energy (RF, FE, IF, etc.), Energy Units (EU), and Minecraft Joules (MJ), but each of those conversions can be tweaked individually, and even disabled entirely. It is quite rare for a modpack to do that, but it is possible. Answer from VT-14 on reddit.com

r/feedthebeast on Reddit: Can Immersive Engineering power Mekanism machines?
June 2, 2021 -

Hello.

I'm using my own selection of mods in Forge for 1.16.5. I tried to use IE wires to power Mekanism smelter, chamber... But it seems that the power is not going to the machine.

I think the setup is ok, because I tried with a battery (from Powah, I think) and it worked.

Are the mod incompatible for this?

Thanks

r/feedthebeast on Reddit: Does immersive engineering and mekanism work well together?
April 13, 2021 -

I've mostly played IE but I'm intrigued by what mekanism has to offer and I like its 21st century theme, but I'm unsure if the two mods work together, or if there will be balance issues. Anyone have experience with these two mods at the same time?

IMO, Immersive Engineering tends to be severely underpowed, where as Mekanism tends to be extremely overpowered. Immersive Engineering has some neat ideas and mechanics, and is a very pretty mod, but it's quite expensive (needs lots of Steel that it makes slow to craft) for not super impressive machines. The Crusher is perhaps the most gated 2x ore processing mechanic I've ever come across in such a common mod. In most modpacks I see people either use IE for the sake of using IE, or just pick out the most useful bits and pieces; like Wires (which are fairly unique long-range power transfer) and the Garden Cloche (a good and fast single-block plant grower. The mod gets more use in Gated Progression modpacks where it's commonly found in the early game. Meanwhile Mekanism is more typical ideas and mechanics, and is a significant contributor to power creep. The first machine you make lets you make Steel in ~20 seconds IIRC, and the second is 2x ore processing which also makes the first machines much more efficient. A common build path beyond that is a 3rd machine for Crushing (and eventually 3x ore processing) and a 4th as an "Osmium Compressor" allowing the 5th to be the Digital Miner; the mod's quarry block. It gets up to 5x ore processing. It also has Energy and Speed upgrades which with a full set of both can (IIRC) turn a 20 RF/t 10 second process into a 200 RF/t 1 second process. The mod also has "Factories" which lets several machines run up to 7 or 9 (depending on version) operations in parallel.

They work together really well since they all use Forge energy. I use Mekanism and Flux for my power systems. Then I tend to mix and match between Immersive Engineering, Industrial Foregoing, and Mekanism blocks for various builds depending on my needs.

November 29, 2016 - EDIT 2: Note that if you're using the Electric Feeder Unit it needs to be next to the track, whereas if you want to feed power in from below, can place the track onto a Wire Support Frame and use the Shunting wire mentioned above - it goes into the side of the frame.

December 1, 2020 - I’ve only ever used IE for the cloche and for early game passive power. Any specific recommendations of cool stuff you can do with it? ... I use it for a lot of automation and such- one funky thing is that you can use it along with mekanism to make infinite coal- a mekanism combiner uses 3 coal to make 1 coal ore, and an IE crusher makes 4 coal from that piece of ore. Also, treated wood is an excellent building block and honestly? I tend to prefer the immersive engineering versions of things purely because they look so much cooler.

1.2.0: Mekanism Induction Cells and Immersive Engineering Power systems incompatible. | Feed The Beast
December 5, 2015 - Removal of the Immersive Engineering battery/connector from the mekanism power network restore normal function but the block where the mekanism cable existed is permanently broken. That block must be routed around in order to move power again. It's likely this problem is already fixed in updated versions of both mods since the pack versions are severely out of date.
