r/feedthebeast on Reddit: How does the thermal evaporation plant from mekanism work?
August 10, 2018 -

I made one that was six blocks high. Temperature went up to 304K, fine. I then put a resistive heater next to it, powered it, temperature still 304K. Changed the amount of power used at best to 1kRF, but the temperature in the TEP stayed at 304K even after I had waited for the heater to heat up. Tried changing the placement of the heater and using the conductive things, nothing. Had an extreme reactors reactor, so power generation wasn't a problem. I also changed the TEP's controller's position to be as high as possible, nothing changed.

Plenty of water in the plant too.

Only thing that made a difference in brine generation was the height of the plant, with generation being 0.06mb/t at 3 blocks high and going up by 0.02mb/t per every layer added.

I'm playing in 1.12.2, no particular modpack.

r/Mekanism on Reddit: Unsure of why my Thermal Evaporation Plant is not working / turning on
June 11, 2025 -

I've followed like six tutorials and for some reason, it just is not turning on. I've tried building in creative mode, and there just is no luck. I've:

- added the four solar panels to the top
- left the top open
- switched the pumps to pull (they won't enter the valves though)
- made it both 18 blocks tall (and 4 blocks tall)

I just have no clue what I'm doing wrong. The picture below has it extended into the ground just to hide it. This one is in my creative world cause I'm just troubleshooting.

OK, since the geometry looks right, let's check the blocks/math. You need: At least one Thermal Evaporation Valve, on at outside wall (not a corner) and not on the 4x4 base layer or the top layer containing the solar panels, and a water source of some sort piping water into that value. At least one Thermal Evaporation Valve, on at outside wall (not a corner) and not on the 4x4 base layer or the top layer containing the solar panels, and a pipe configurated to "extract". It would be helpful if this pipe WENT somewhere but that is immaterial to this troubleshooting. At least one Thermal Evaporation Controller, on at outside wall (not a corner) and not on the 4x4 base layer or the top layer containing the solar panels. Every other block in the 4x4x18 (with a hollow core except for the base) made up of Thermal Evaporation Blocks Upon placing the LAST block, it should momentarily shimmer with red particles to let you know the multiblock construction was successful and the gameworld recognizes it. This is also the point at which your Controller will be clickable and start showing production stats. It should also start filling with water (which you can see from the controller screen). Make sure all of those are right first, that's the basics. Now for the next step, HEAT. Evaporation plants only really work if the total heat they generate is sufficient to, you know, evaporate things. They are dependent on their environment. Which means if you build them at high altitudes or in a snowy biome, even if they have solar panels to pump more heat into them, they do nothing because the water won't boil. The solutions to this heat problem are to put the entire thing as close to ground level as possible and in the hottest biome possible (Dessert, Savanah, etc.). The other alternative is to craft one more Valve and stick a resistive heater on it. Power the heater, and set it to consume 1250 fe/t (for testing). Then see if it's evaporating and producing brine. If it is, then it's just a matter of experimenting to find the optimum heater power to brine production ratio. In vanilla it's 1250 fe/t to achieve precisely 1080 mb/t production of brine. In ATM10, it's higher than that because production isn't limited to 1080 mb/t for max size plants. Have fun figuring that out.

r/allthemods on Reddit: Mekanism Help - Thermal Evaporation
April 21, 2025 -

Hi everyone. Was wondering if anyone could help me out here. I'm playing ATM9 and my thermal evaporation chamber is producing 900mB/tick of brine, but I can only get 100mB/tick to go into each electrolytic separator. My 5x ore setup is bottlenecked because I'm only producing 10mB of chlorine per separator per tick.

Added the second separator on top to try and get more output, but was only able to get it up to 200mB/tick in the network.

Heres a picture of my thermal evaporation tower stats for reference. Resistive heater is running 1t 1.4kFE/tick, which I was able to determine is JUST enough to keep the temp of the tank steadily rising. Had it running at 10k per tick for a while though, and this definitely isn't the cause of the low throughput.

Any help would be appreciated. Fairly new to modded minecraft, and this throughput issue is keeping me from progressing since I cant process my ores (and I'm slowly running out of uranium!)

How does this even work? I've increased the height of it, which according to the wiki should increase the max temperature. But I have 2 plants next to each other, with different heights, and they're at max temperature, and it's the same for both of them. 3.02k degrees C.

The controller is detecting the extra height, but the max temperature isn't rising. The wiki also mentions a "multiplier" but I can't see it anywhere. I'm in a canyon from biomes o plenty if that makes a difference.

I'm heating them up with resistive heaters attached to the valves, because it seems to be the only way to keep production going at night and making solar panels is expensive. But I was having the same problem with solar panels attached.

What temperature do I need to produce enough brine/lithium to keep a fusion reactor running? And how many evaporation plants?
