The reactor in Mekanism keeps exploding. I've read that it can explode due to the accumulation of nuclear waste, but I have the best airtight pipe connected to the reactor, which is quite long, and this pipe has a large internal buffer, so it is unlikely that the reactor can explode due to waste buildup. I built a minimal reactor, and it exploded twice. The fuel supply was set at 2.0, which was the maximum burn rate possible for the smallest reactor size. The temperature of the casing was constant and did not increase (I don't remember the exact value). Water was always supplied from 8 pumps with maximum speed upgrades, and steam was released from the reactor to the turbine. There was always enough water. And then I set the reactor to work and went to build the rest of the base, but after a while, it exploded, contaminating everything with radiation. I need help because it's frustrating that a seemingly stable system keeps exploding. What could be the potential causes for the reactor to explode? Please provide all possible reasons.
The last time I built a larger reactor, size 5x5. More rods, more space inside. I thought that could be the issue. I set the burn rate to 1.0, but it still exploded after some time. I can't sit next to the damn reactor all the time and watch what's wrong. It always explodes not immediately, but after some time. Maybe it's about the temperature, but as I said, water is properly supplied to the reactor and steam is being output to the turbine. Condensed water is returned to the reactor from the turbine. No matter how much I initially checked the water levels, the water remains at maximum.
I want to know all the potential causes for the possible explosion. Ask me questions, I will answer everything. It's important for me to get to the bottom of this.
I am running a Fission Reactor that has exploded 2 times already. Upon investigating how it happened, I found out that when the Energy tank for the Industrial Turbine is full. The turbine itself slows down tremendously and will stop converting steam into water and so the Coolant tank will deplete making the reactor go boom. I tried looking for any guide where it states that the turbine stops functioning after the energy tank is full but found no answer. Just wondering if the community has an idea on how to fix this issue.
I've had my reactor blow up a few times with this configuration but it doesn't quite make sense to me as to why it would blow up. The turbine and waste barrels should be able to handle a larger reactor, and the induction matrix I have is 4x the size represented in the picture. I've had it run for several hours before without it blowing up but when I leave the area and come back it's blown itself up.
The reactor is a 5x5x8 setup pumping steam into a max-size turbine, which pumps water back into the reactor. There's also two sinks using Pipez to add a total of 20k water per tick. I only need this reactor for polonium. It keeps exploding. I'll be going about my business and suddenly my entire base has green particle effects.
The thing is that everything should be fine. Coolant levels are always maxed out, as are fissile fuel levels. Nuclear waste is being automatically drained out and turned into polonium. It's at 1.5 burn rate, which doesn't seem to increase the system heat when I watch the controller for a while. Steam's not backing up and causing issues, because my massive turbine is never even a quarter full (I may have overdone it in a fit of explosion-induced rage).
Oh, and the redstone auto-shutoff system that the quest log describes? Doesn't work for me. It has never stopped an explosion, ever. Here's the redstone setup. It should go off at high damage, but never does.
EDIT: Here's a screenshot of the reactor status screen. Temp is holding steady, coolant doesn't go down. Damage is decreasing (I just rebuilt it).
Me and my friend are doing Ragnamod VI, and we keep tuning into an issue where our fission reactor blows up without any warning or problems. Any tips for this?
As the title says, my Fission reactor was running fine for 3+ hours, I went to the End and came back and it was blown up. As seen, I have the each of the redstone circuit breaker things for the different issues like damage critical, insufficient fuel, etc. None of them were activated. It was not out of fuel as the pipe supplying the Fissile fuel still had tons stored in them immediately after the explosion. The steam turbine to the left of the reactor still had plenty more space for the steam that is being produced. I have bunch of waste barrels dealing with the waste, which were also no where near full when I checked them after the explosion. I had about 20 sinks, as well as the water being produced from the steam turbine to keep the reactor full of water. This is the second time this reactor has exploded. I chalked the first one up as a mistake somewhere because I am new to using these and it happened after I was afk overnight, but this time I was 100% sure all components such as fuel & coolant input as well as waste & coolant output were stable mere minutes before the explosion. Both times this reactor has exploded was after I came back from the End or the Nether. Is the hopping between the dimensions causing this to happen or am I somehow not running the reactor correctly? Please help, I hate having to rebuild this thing.
In my ATM 6 world I built a mekanism reactor and it was fine until recently the reactor exploded and I've yet to figure out why. I've built several other reactors varying in size and theyve all exploded on me as soon as I built it. When my friend built the reactor it seemed to run fine. Does anyone know why?
Hole the reactor made after many many attemptsSo I created a mekanism Fission reactor... and everything was going just fine. Coolant was ok, power, steam, all good, waste, good, then I go afk by it for like 20 minutes. Nothing happens, everything is fine. So I leave the area to go to my base and start crafting for the mekasuit, and I come back after like 5 minutes, and its just exploded? I don't understand why at all. The steam in the turbine filled up completely (when it was staying at a constant like 4 million mB when I was over there) and the reactor just went boom. And now, when I try to rebuild it, its immediately at like 150% damage and just gets destroyed. How do I fix this? Also how do I clean up the radiation it spilled out because the sound is very annoying.
Wait, will the reactor explode when it runs out of fuel? Because I was able to run it at like 15 mB/t, and I found there is no fuel remaining in my production area as well. Thankfully I created like 30 polonium pellets before it went boom.
My biggest question now is how do I rebuild it in the same place without mekanism giving it 150% damage upon building
So what it looks like is the energy storage system you had got filled to 100%, leading to the steam turbine energy buffer to also fill up, leading to steam building up and waiting to be used. This would cause the coolant recycling system (I'm assuming you're using molten salt or a closed loop water-steam-water system) to stop ending up with the reactor running out of coolant and going boom.
The reactors dont blow up when they run out of fuel
The radiation will eventually subside....after a long time in game
The 150% heat thing I have no idea about, try moving the reactor to a different chunk, away from the radiation
mekanism reactors will eventually repair,as long as they are at a safe temp (temperature number is green) and damage is below 100%, albeit taking an extremely long time
