memory code 00?!?! that debug LED 00 indicates no CPU present or defective

I had basically the same issue with a 7950X3D with the Extreme, except that ultimately my CPU became unusable/fried. I always had issues with the mobo requiring at least 2 boots to successfully POST and every boot requiring longer than expected to complete, but on the final time, the mobo would not POST even with multiple reboots. I reset the mobo to defaults with the button on the mobo and then I was able to POST with the "you need to re-enter your BIOS settings" message. I used my saved user profile that I had used many times (using my DRAM profile for 6400) and then I started getting the "00" code constantly. I purchased a new mobo (Hero, not Extreme) and put the CPU in that and got the same "00" code. I purchased a new 7950X3D and put it in the Hero and I am now using that without any issue (no multiple boots, it boots in the expected amount of time, etc). On the Extreme I never had any issues once the mobo successfully booted. No strange crashes or anything. I had always kept the BIOS updated to the latest non-beta version available, and I was running the version that has the CPU voltage protection. I run 3rd-party fan control software (FanControl) and the CPU always ran at the expected temperature and would reach 5.0 GHz without hitting dangerous temperatures, etc. The whole sequence of events was a bit strange and I don't know that I can really explain it. Maybe the Extreme was always overvolting the CPU to some degree and it eventually died? ASUS accepted my RMA for the mobo and said I should contact AMD regarding the CPU. AMD accepted my RMA. I explained the situation to them both in my tickets. Good luck and best wishes!

[SOLVED] - New build won't post. "Code 00 ... memory" error on motherboard. | Tom's Hardware Forum
February 16, 2021 - On one hand multiple people have said that this error means it's related to the CPU but on the other hand the chance that I didn't get an actual brand new CPU somehow are small as everything was sealed and the error specifies ''Memory" not "CPU". On one hand when I recieved my motherboard marked as brand new from a famous retailer it wasn't actually sealed for some reason, and some people said that the "code 00" error could be the motherboard that has issues with capacitors or something, but on the other hand I think they were talking about the older zenith model and I got this motherboard from a reputable retailer as ''brand new'', and everything inside was sealed however.

Hey guys, I'm getting super frustrated. Back in mid February we had a blackout. Unfortunately didn't have a psu. It killed my power supply. Got a new one, everything was working fine, and then I has another brownout. Computer booted up, but if I leave it on past a day, or try to run cinebench, it shuts off then I need to wait a little cause memory code: 00 keeps popping up. Can anyone tell me what that code means? I've changed out my ram, rebuilt the computer in a new case and checked my ryzen 3960 for bent pins but there were none. I tried to being the board to microcenter but they tested it with my ram and had no boot issues. This leads me to believe it's either my cpu or graphics card. What are your guys thoughts?

Edit: this is my build - https://pcpartpicker.com/list/T8vwJf

Ever get any traction on this? Same exact problem. RMA'd the mobo, still same issue. Have 1 memory stick in c1, the cpu, and power supply. No hard drive, no video card. Still getting same error, Memory 00.

Same configuration here... last year i had 2rtx2080ti running well with it... left the computer off for two months... when it was needed again, it had lost one of the gpus. First it would just shut down after a few minutes, screen goes to black and would only start again after a reset... the cause was one of the gpus, after removing it the system got ok. (Apparently there is no fix for the gpu, unfortunately). Then 2 or 3 moths went by, computer started to show code 00 and no way to get it to boot, i tried everything but it would still no boot. I never though it could be the psu because the leds would still light up and the computer would do its normal starting procedure until it encounter code 00. But it was the Psu after all. brand new psu only turned on one time before yesterday, yesterday worked fine all day, today morning Code00 is up again and same old story, cant boot it up . I am getting so tired of this... and worst thing it always lines up with important jobs happening. I am questioning everything because if it turns out to be the new psu (and all is pointing in that direction), there is something going on with the motherboard. This is my most expensive pc so far and also the most unreliable. So disappointed i dont know what to do...thinking on crushing it with a Mallot and probably thats the best idea. It spends more time being fixed then producing work.

Question - Zenith II Extreme: Memory Code 00 followed by hang/no POST at Memory Test | Tom's Hardware Forum
October 19, 2025 - I've read this can be caused by a difference in screw tightness on the cpu socket, or the cooler, or it can be an overly tight cooler or a loose cpu socket. This seemed likely at first, as when I removed the cooper's screws it stopped turning on at all. Subsequently I've repeated the cpu, and I'm back to hanging at Memory test.

r/ASRock on Reddit: 00 code? Might just be a drama queen moment from your board
May 14, 2025 -

I often see posts where Q-Code 00 is immediately treated as a dead CPU—especially among ASRock users. But based on my recent experience, I’d recommend staying calm and trying a few things first.

While stress-testing my 9800X3D and G.Skill CL26 RAM (1.40V), I hit Q-Code 00 multiple times when pushing the limits. A simple CMOS reset? Didn’t help. But what I consistently noticed was this:

All memory profiles in BIOS were suddenly blank, and even EXPO wouldn’t apply. The fix? Manually re-enter the correct RAM timings (don’t trust Auto—they were way off in my case), and save + reboot.

Bonus tip: after a successful boot, shut down, flip your PSU switch off, and tap the power button a few times to discharge. This clears out any lingering issues that could cause false Q-Codes.

If your board lacks a postcode display, I get how this could look like a fatal error. But it might just be the RAM training going sideways. Try this before sending in an RMA.

System used:

CPU: 9800X3D

GPU: ASUS Astral 5080 OC

Board: NZXT N9 X870E Extreme (a.k.a. ASRock Nova in disguise)

RAM: G.Skill Trident Z Neo 2×16GB DDR5-6000

Timings: CL26-34-34-70 @ 1.40V

Command Rate: 1T, GDM Disabled
