I am looking to try and sell some higher end men's clothing I no longer wear. I know Columbus has many clothing consignment shops such as Rag-O-Rama, Plato's Closet, etc. but I was hoping to get some insight from others who have sold as to which stores are the best to deal with. Thanks!

I give my clothing to the people that send me the yellow flier. You just put it out on the porch and they pick it up.

Honestly if it's actually higher end stuff, you're probably better off selling online. EBay is an obvious answer, but depending on what it is there is a website called grailed.com that is meant for selling high end menswear. I don't know how old you are, but its geared at a slight younger market (18-25).

I've always had a pretty terrible wardrobe. All my clothes are either from old navy or band tee's. I want to start dressing a bit nicer but don't even know where to start. What are some good spots to buy some nice clothes for a mid 30s man in Columbus?

Check out Eclectic Fashions on High Street in Clintonville; It's across from the Local Cantina near California and High. It's awesome. The guy has been there for like a hundred years. It's a consignment shop and he's in the closet of every rich guy in Columbus buying their stuff. While a lot of his inventory is suits, he has tons of casual wear as well. I've gotten high end name brand shirts for like $20, jeans for $30 and suits for $100. He's probably the best hidden gem in Columbus when it comes to men's wear. Plus, he comes across all kinds of interesting and rare clothing pieces. I saw some gator boots in there for like $40. Also, you're doing right by the environment by reusing stuff that either hasn't been worn at all or has only been lightly worn.

Depends on your style. Public Lands & REI have great athletic/casual clothing, as outdoor gear has come into fashion quite a bit in recent years (Vuori, Faherty, Fjallraven, Patagonia, Arcteryx, North Face, etc). Some of these brands can be pricey, but they will typically last a long time and are very comfortable to wear. At Easton.. Nordstrom is great, and the employees are usually happy to assist with advice. The Marine Layer store is one of my favorites, but it's expensive. On the lower budget spectrum, you could honestly do worse than Target's Goodfellow brand when it comes to wardrobe staples like chinos, shorts, & various shirts. They usually are aimed at modern trends, however won't last years, but will likely get you through a season or two. Same goes for H&M. Macy's has really gone downhill in the past decade. Other than Ralph Lauren, most of their clothing is very low quality and not keeping up with modern trends. The brands that fill most of their racks like like Tommy Hilfiger, Nautica, etc have seriously fallen off in quality/style. Plus you have to rely on catching sales, or else their prices aren't worth it at all.

I really liked selling with second chance consignment on 5th in Grandview! They were nice and you get 50% of whatever they sell it for.

Uptown cheapskate is good if you want low effort. I consigned things there several years ago, and they pay you up front instead of waiting for the item to sell. I felt kinda lowballed, but not enough to not sell my things anyway, cuz it was fast, easy, and still on the low end of fair. This isn’t the place for a really nice jacket/shoes/bag etc., you won’t get paid what it’s worth, it’s better for “I have 50 shirts I want money for right now, let’s make this happen.”
