Man, black shirt and matching your tie with your girlfriend is about as tacky as possible. It's the classic prom trap so many teenagers fall into. Also black on black doesn't work for 99% of people, it's just a bleak look. And a spring wedding calls for light happy colors. So a no go on your planned outfit.
Formal traditionally means black tie, and if it is black tie nothing but a black or midnight blue tuxedo is appropriate. However I'm willing to go out on a limb and guess this wedding will be semi formal, in other words wear a suit. Black suits are not appropriate for weddings and definitely not in the spring. A grey (charcoal) or navy suit is always appropriate and if you only own one suit it should in either of those colors, pair it with a white shirt and a tasteful low key tie. Your date should be the one standing out colorwise and your outfit takes a backseat, doesn't mean it has to be bad, there is just no need to add any flair when you have a date.
