Looking for men’s clothing brands similar to Zara but less fast fashion
Arket, COS, and Uniqlo U are solid. Good quality basics, clean cuts, still affordable. If you want something a bit nicer, check Asket or Outerknown. They last way longer than Zara stuff. More on reddit.com

MFA Brand MegaReview: Zara | January 30, 2021
2012 through about 2014 I was out of college, unemployed for stretches, underemployed for others, and underpaid for the rest. After being unemployed post-college in 2012 and living with my parents, and then my entire annual income in 2013 was about $13,000 while I was living on my own, and somewhere around $20,000 in 2014. I had some freelance gigs here and there where I could pull in $500 or $1000 bucks outside my reported income, but I was ostensibly "living in poverty" for a few years. Zara was honestly kind of a godsend in that period, I needed somewhat fashionable clothing but had basically no money to spend on it. I work in the contemporary art world and dressing well is literally part of my job. While Zara isn't exactly highly respected, I was able to get some decent looking clothing on the cheap. Today I find it easy to criticize Zara, whether it's the stolen designs, or the fast fashion model, or the inconsistent sizing, the sweatshop labor, and so on, but I admit that for a moment in my life they were a really useful utility. When I didn't have money for clothes but I needed decent looking clothes, Zara was one of the best options available to me. There's a lot of better options in the world if you have time and money, as I do now, but I'd be a hypocrite to ignore the benefit they provided me when I had neither time nor money. Also while they're not exactly a "buy it for life" brand, their clothes didn't fall apart on me either, so, I'll give them props for that. Everything lasted an appropriate amount of time for the price. More on reddit.com

Why does everyone say that Zara quality is bad?
I guess they’re a middle ground? I’ve never been able to afford or justify Ralph Lauren or Boss; but I did grow up wearing hand-me-downs and cheaper stores. My first job I very excitedly bought a coat from Zara. It was 2005 and it cost me £200. Probably the most I’d spent on an item at that point. The lining was torn within a year and I seem to remember the cuff fraying. I was SOO disappointed and have thought of them as low quality ever since. Maybe unfairly. But haven’t bought from them since. (Not all stubbornness. Thick thick thighs and nothing fits me.) More on reddit.com

Hey everyone,

I’m trying to upgrade my wardrobe a bit and would love some brand recommendations. Most of my current clothes are from Zara, and I also like Weekday and Massimo Dutti.

I’m looking for brands with a similar minimalist / modern style but that are a bit higher quality and less fast fashion. Ideally still somewhat affordable — for reference, I usually consider a t-shirt under €50 to be within my budget.

Any suggestions would be really appreciated!

Past Threads | Old "Brand Love/Hate" Threads | Last Week - Camoshita

These threads are for open-ended discussion. Each comment can be a mini-review: talk about your favorite pieces, your opinions on the general aesthetic, quality details, favorite runway show, whatever you can add. The thread, as a whole, will ideally coalesce into a mega-review: the reddit hive mind at its best, giving a picture of a brand no one opinion alone could capture. If you have something to add, no matter how small, add it. And for that matter, questions are fair game too. Maybe somebody will look back on this thread with the same question, and appreciate the answers you get!

Zara

This section is for a generic overview of the brand; I strive to keep my own opinions to the comments.

Interesting designs from time to time but stitching is just terrible. Fabric can be quite decent if you know how to take care of it.

Despite being pretty unpopular I ’m looking to buy some heavyweight oversized T-shirts with 3/4 sleeves and was wondering if anybody shopped at Zara and could tell me the if the quality is any good?

They have a pretty okay sale on at the moment but just seems a little bit too cheap. I don’t know, does anybody shop at ZARA?

Maybe I'm just poor but it looks good to me lol.

Seriously though. I remember when I was just starting to care and think about how I dress, I went to primark to see some outfits and thought, "I couldn't say why, but I don't like these clothes at all", then went to Zara and noticed I liked them more because the fabric looked better.

I also went to a mall to see brands like Ralph Lauren, Boss etc, and to me, the fabric and leather of chinos, dress shirts, belts etc looks the same as Zara, plus they have logos, which zara doesn't. Maybe there's something I'm missing idk.

Everyone says it's horrible but to me Zara looks literally the same as the expensive brands, minus the bad sewing. But that's not obvious at all, to me, the fabric is the main thing. You can even just cut the loose threads at home lol and then it will look good.
