Metformin Reverses Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis by Regulating Key Immune Events - PMC
After reaching stable status, cells were treated with metformin (0 and 5 mmol/L). After 8 h of treatment, cells were collected and used for flow cytometry and mRNA transcriptome sequencing (method described above). Upon establishment of Hashimoto’s thyroiditis animal model and completion of metformin intervention (within 30 min before sacrifice), mice were grabbed and their abdomens were gently massaged to stimulate defecation.

Guys i saw a post a few days ago in here that metformin helps reduce TPO antibodies and possitivly affects the thyriod.. so I started doing some research and I found this artcile which is mind blowing🤯 and a simple google search will tell you that Metformin REVERSES Hashimoto thyroiditis 🤯 I was like WHAAATTT, I have type 1 diabetes also with some insulin resitsnce so I think I can convince my doctor to put me on this medication.. what are your oppinions guys?

Scientist here, first it was a mouse study and these studies notoriously dont replicate in humans. I would look for human data since so many people are on metformin for type 2 diabetes

The fuck it does, definitely not for me. I developed Pernicious Anemia from taking Metformin, my TPO was through the roof while on it (10 years)

Metformin reduces autoimmune antibody levels in patients with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis: A systematic review and meta-analysis: Autoimmunity: Vol 53 , No 6 - Get Access
Metformin significantly reduced TPOAb levels and TgAb levels in patients with HT and SH, especially TPOAb (HT: p TPOAb = .009, p TgAb = .046; SH: p TPOAb = .034, p TgAb = .066). In addition, metformin also reduced the levels of thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) in patients with HT and SH (HT: p TSH = .000 and p HOMA-IR = .000; SH: p TSH = .000 and p HOMA-IR = .000, respectively).

Effects of Slow-Acting Metformin Treatment on the Hormonal and Morphological Thyroid Profile in Patients with Insulin Resistance
September 20, 2022 - Metformin exerts an inhibitory effect on AMPK activity in the hypothalamus, where it opposes T3 [40]. Additionally, evidence demonstrates that insulin resistance can have a role in the link between metformin and TSH. In a four-month pilot study, metformin treatment led to a reduction in TSH in patients with interferon-induced hypothyroidism, more pronounced than in patients with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis [41]. Nevertheless, its clinical significance is still unknown.
