$460 registration fee in Michigan!
How are tag fees calculated in MI?
Why is there such an insane increase for my car tab renewal?
First time car purchase in Michigan, how much did all of this cost you?
State of Michigan charged me $464 for my annual VW 2023 ID4 Pro S registration. About $200 in 'EV fees' since I won't be paying gas tax, and the rest is calculated as a percentage of the car's MSRP. I feel that this level of annual fee will disincentivize EV adoption.
How are the fees in other states? Do you think MI fees are too high?
So we're moving to GR at the end of June and unfortunately, just totaled a car and have to buy a new one.
In Georgia, Ad Valorem is assessed all at once when you purchase the vehicle, meaning it is DUMB expensive but then every year you only pay 20 bucks for the renewal. In Mississippi where we previously lived, it was 30% of the total charged every year for 3 years then it dropped down. So the initial fee was much less but you paid more for 3 years at renewal.
My question is, how is it done in MI? I tried looking it up on the SOS website but that site is garbage and just 404's everywhere.
What I don't want to do is pay 100% Ad Valorem in GA, then move to MI in 3 months and have to pay 100% again when I retitle it to get a plate there. Can anyone chime in to help me understand?
