Hello Reddit, I was looking at purchasing a laptop and noticed that a $2200 laptop had an open box one for $1500. The microcenter associate told me price reduction reflects the length of time the laptop has been reshelved. My question: Is it worth the risk? Is there a way to troubleshoot the laptop within the 14 day return window to check out everything? Is it worth getting the $300 microcenter warranty (in my experience I hate buying warranties anywhere). What were some of your open box experiences? I know every experience and every open box varies and its completely dependent on your luck. But just wanted to gauge the internet.
Thank you!
Update: I purchased the laptop, took it home, powered it up, and it instantly went to the blue screen of death. Rebooted it, booted up normally. Rebooted again, another blue screen of death. Instantly returned the laptop. Win some you lose some
Ridiculous mark downs at some locations on open box Mac’s. I’ve been waiting to dive into Apple Silicone for a while, and been following closely since the M4 release.
I’m tired of windows, want iPhone continuity, and this is the best computer for World of Warcraft (Retail) apparently.
They had prices at $1,609 and $1,500. Then I randomly checked in the middle of the day and the prices had been reduced significantly. I thought it was an error, reserved it instantly.
There was also a 1tb 48gb ram 20 gpu Mac Mini M4 Pro for $1,202. Newest base MacBook Air for $674.
Anyways, hoping I like the new system 🤞🏻
Is this a good deal for a refurbished M1 Max? Still has Apple care until Nov 2024 and has ~40 battery cycles.
Never bought an open box item from microcenter before.
Specs: 16” M1 Max 32gb/1tb, 10CPU/32GPU/16Neural
Could you please help me decide if I should go for an open box macbook pro m4 from Microcenter. I've never bought an open box before. What should I check for?
1TB SSD
18GB RAM
Total: ~$2300 w/tax
I was lucky enough to find an open-boxed one at my local MicroCenter, but just wondering if these go down during Black Friday deals. Full price was $2199 before tax, so I feel like I got a good deal, especially with the 1TB SSD.
I have 15 days before I have to return it.
EDIT: main use for it is audio production, DJing, and some basic video editing. I was previously using the 2018 model Pro with 16gb of RAM, but there were times I could notice it slowing down; that MacBook was also Intel-based.
Thoughts?
After being assured the $1.5k laptop I purchased would be functional by customer support, the laptop experienced constant and recurring BSODs. I got authorization to ship the laptop back for a refund, however Micro Center took almost a month to get me the return shipping label. I shipped the laptop back 2 months ago, and the company is refusing to issue me a refund. They sent the check to the wrong address twice, and now I can't reach my contact at Micro Center. I've had to advocate for myself every step of the way with constant emails and calls to get anywhere and still nothing. Don't purchase open box unless you want a broken product and no refund.
MC employee was pushing me additional warranty on open-box mac
He said that there's no warranty on apple products from manufacturer when you buy them open box
Only 15 days return
is it correct?
Hi,
I was looking into buying a refurb MacBook Pro at microcenter, and noticed that the items listed have different tags. One of them says Refurbished and the other one is Factory Refurbished.
Can someone lmk what is the difference between them? Does Apple refurbish both the products? If yes, then why one has 90 days return whereas the other has 1 year?

Thanks for all the help!

Not cheap enough for yours truly, perhaps someone here might be interested
Edit: apparently my third party Reddit app doesn’t like posting images so Here
I decided to try and get a new monitor from microcenter, and saw they had 2 “open-box” of a monitor I’ve been eying. They had two options for open box, one was $80 off of the new, and other was $120 off of the new price. I decided to get the $80 one on the off chance they had missed something on the cheaper one. Well, fuck me I guess, because this order not only came with a broken stand, but it is missing the main base for the stand to go in altogether. I even asked if they check the boxes to be sure when I was picking up the item, and I was told yes. That was a fucking lie. Now I have to find time tomorrow to drive an hour back up there for a return, nearly breaking even in gas money for the money I “saved” getting the open-box.
Hope like an electronic I get doesn’t just die on me
Hello. Does anyone have experience buying an open box from microcenter? This MBP retails for like 4K and it’s 3150 here. What happens if it just stops working after the 2 week window? Thanks!
