Hi,
I didn't see anywhere else to ask this, but what's the difference between Microsoft 365 Personal Classic ($69.99 per year) vs. Microsoft 365 Basic (19.99) a year?
Would Basic work fine for me using Word, PowerPoint, and not Outlook? Also, it's just for myself, no one else.
Thx.
Hi Rayhan, thank you for coming to the forum.
I'm sorry to hear about the trouble you're facing, I will be happy to assist in the best way I can.
With Microsoft 365 Basic, you get the following which is also included in Microsoft 365 Personal since it has 1TB of OneDrive and more.
- 100 GB of cloud storage
- Photo and file storage
- Secure ad-free email
- Always up to date
- Microsoft support

There's no need to worry if you cancel Office 365 Basic.
I hope this helps. If you require further information, please donโt hesitate to get in contact. I will be more than happy to assist you further.
Kind Regards, Myk

Hello! Anne Kaye
Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community
Based on the information you provided, it seems that you may not need both Microsoft 365 Basic and Microsoft 365 Personal subscriptions. Microsoft 365 Personal includes 1 TB of OneDrive storage, which should be enough to cover your storage needs. However, it's possible that the pop-up message you received was related to a different issue, such as a syncing problem or a temporary glitch.
To confirm whether you need both subscriptions, I recommend checking your OneDrive storage usage again. You can do this by signing in to your OneDrive account and checking the storage usage in the settings. If you find that you have enough storage with your Microsoft 365 Personal subscription, you can cancel your Microsoft 365 Basic subscription to avoid paying for two subscriptions.
Regarding your question about backing up your phone data, Microsoft 365 Personal includes OneDrive storage that can be used to back up your phone data. You can download the OneDrive app on your phone and set it up to automatically back up your photos and other files to your OneDrive account.
To put it simply, if you don't need Office programs in your computer and wanted to just have the storage you can get the Microsoft 365 basic plan which give you 100GB. But if you want to have the use of Office applications with the benefits of 1TB OneDrive and can install Office up to 5 devices with your subscription, then I would say get the Microsoft 365 Personal and you can turn off the recurring billing for the Microsoft 365 Basic. That way you won't get charged for the Microsoft 365 Basic.
I hope I have answered your question.

Thank you very much Vince that's very helpful and has resolved my issue.
Hello. I work as a freelancer and I have plans to switch from a personal MS 365 account to business subs.
I am uncertain which version to choose between the basic ot standard sub. Besides the desktop versions of MS Office, what are the differences?
Hi, Phil Marsh_891
Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft community.
I understand that you currently have a Microsoft 365 Personal subscription and have received a notification that your Microsoft 365 Basic subscription is about to expire.
You are correct; typically, if you have already subscribed to Microsoft 365 Personal, you do not need an additional Microsoft 365 Basic subscription, as the Personal edition usually includes all the features and services of the Basic subscription. Here are the main differences between the two plans, which you can choose from based on your needs:
- Price: Microsoft 365 Basic is the most affordable plan, costing only $1.99 per month or $19.99 per year. The Microsoft 365 Personal edition is slightly more expensive, at $6.99 per month or $69.99 per year.
- Storage Space: Microsoft 365 Personal provides 1TB of cloud storage space for a single user, while the Basic edition offers 100GB of cloud storage space. If you need to store a large amount of television content or work files, the Personal edition might be a better choice.
- Application Access: Users who choose Microsoft 365 Personal will be able to use desktop versions of applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. The Basic edition, on the other hand, does not provide access to desktop versions of applications, only web and mobile versions.
- Device Usage: Although both plans are designed for a single user, Microsoft 365 Personal is generally more accessible overall. Members of the Personal edition can use it on up to five devices simultaneously, meaning you can easily switch between your laptop, phone, PC, and tablet.
I hope the above information can be of help to you. If you have any further updates or questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Hi everyone. My wife and myself are currently moving everything over the Microsoft 365. We are moving from Mac. I wondered if there are any benefits to the 365 for business as opposed to personal? We would use this to run our business, but also personal. Our business is not a major priority and more of a side hustle, however the benefit would be the business could pay. Just wondered if there were any reason to not go with business and just use personal?
