The article linked showing how to do it states that it must be a "business or enterprise plan". So do the same steps work with a Family plan? I'm also wanting to do the same thing and move away from my own self-hosted email for just our 4 family members, but I can't seem to find a clear answer on if the family plan does this or not.

Hey there, my name is Ajibola and I'm excited to help you out today!
As a Microsoft 365 Family subscriber, you have the option to set up a custom domain. Office 365 also allows the use of a custom domain, as long as it is associated with a paid subscription. The Microsoft 365 admin centre provides a simple and easy-to-follow guide on how to add a domain to your subscription. All you need to do is sign in to your domain registrar and follow the provided instructions. Once the domain is added, each user can set up mailbox names using the .com domain.
It's important to note that you don't need to switch your domain hosting service to GoDaddy. You can still use your current provider with your Microsoft 365 Family subscription.

Microsoft hosted domains - Am I going mad?
Why does Microsoft need to mess around with a Domain to sell me 365?

Is Microsoft 365 a Domain Registrar?

Dear danielmfinke,
Good day!
Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. We are glad to assist.
As per your mentioned description about "Webhosting solution for Office 365 Business and Domain". Kindly note that Microsoft 365 does not include a public website for your business. To set one up, consider using a web hosting company like GoDaddy, Wix, or WordPress.

So I recently had the need to move a sites DNS records from their current host (Cloudfair).
I didn't want to use the registrar as their interface is utter trash and transferring it out is not an option at the moment. So I thought I would move the hosting of the records to their Office 365 tenant.
Now though, it appears to be no longer an option. There used to be an option to click "Manage DNS" and one of the options was "Let Microsoft manage your DNS records". You could then change the domains name servers to ns1.bdm.microsoftonline.com, ns2, ns3 etc etc. Then add the records and away you went.
This doesn't seem possible any more? I tried speaking to MS support, but they said it's not possible even though I KNOW I did it before.
Am I going mad?
EDIT SPOKE TO Microsoft support. It has indeed been removed. Unless you select use MS name servers initially there is no way to move it across later other than removing and readding the domain. Were going to use the Azure DNS instead. Thanks all
When a business goes down the road of getting 365, it seems the sales people start gathering info on the domain... the DNS Server ip etc. and then want me to insert a TXT record.
Can I not just set a business up and leave Microsoft far way from my domain settings?
Say the customer is customer.com ... why does Microsoft need to mess around with the domain at all?
We don't want them hosting the email... we just want them to supply Outlook (the mail client software).
Can we not just make some something .onmicrosoft.com email address as the Tenant - get the software and then setup whatever emails we want in the Outlook mail client?
Can someone explain this to me?
All of my customer’s domains are registered with GoDaddy. Whenever I acquire a new customer, I transfer the customer’s domain to GoDaddy to keep a standard. I just acquired a new customer and we can’t seem to identify the registrar. When we do a WHOIS, it shows as Wild West Domains. We contact Wild West Domains and they stated we need to contact Microsoft. I see the Name Servers are pointing to Microsoft. I logged into the Microsoft 365 portal and can see the domain name is managed within the 365 portal and can update the DNS records but I don’t see any way of renewing the domain name or initiating a transfer out. When I go to the “Your Products” and “Bills and Payments” there is nothing related to the domain name purchase or renewal. I am a bit lost. Any ideas of how to track down this domain name?
Are you willing to share the domain?
