We asked our reseller about Microsoft Defender for Endpoint licensing and they basically didn't believe us that it existed, and we couldn't get quotes also I usually suggest that all M365 E3 users get the M365 E5 Security add-on to get access to MCAS & MDE P2. The "Microsoft 365 A5 Security for faculty" add on to A3 costs us more than the entire A3 faculty licenses costs us, so it's completely untenable. More on reddit.com

IMO - The $5.20 is on par with other "next generation" solutions so selling the full feature SKU should be a standard thing to do. As someone else mentioned, throw Huntress in and let it manage Windows Defender. You get the benefits of the Huntress agent and their SOC. You get centralized management and monitoring in a portal that does not suck. Alerting goes directly into your PSA, which Microsoft has yet to figure out unless you use a janky Power Automate/Flow or email, which can be tough for some PSAs to parse. The biggest selling feature to Defender for Endpoint to me is the automated response. Without this, you're putting yourself in a position to generate more work that will easily exceed the difference between the SKUs.
