Hi Kapurcell,

Sometimes the logo stays on the screen while Surface updates are installing. Large updates may take up longer than expected, so you may need to wait while they install.

If it's more than an hour and still the device does not boot in to Windows, force shutdown the device.

  1. Press and hold the power button until the screen turns off (about 10 seconds), then release the power button.
  2. Press and release the power button to turn your Surface back on. You should see the Microsoft logo.

If that doesn't work, use this shutdown process to make sure your Surface completely turns off. Press and hold down the power button until your Surface restarts and you see the Windows logo screen (this takes about 20 seconds), then release the power button.

If force the device to shut down does not work. Try to force shutdown the device again and restart. After two consecutive failed attempts to start Windows, the Recovery menu will appear. Then select See advanced repair options. Select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Go back to the previous version

If that does not work, select See advanced repair options. Then select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup / Automatic repair.

If Startup / Automatic repair does not work, choose System Restore. This will remove recently installed apps, drivers, and updates that might be causing the problem. Restoring from a restore point won’t affect your personal files.

If System Restore does not work, reset your device. Select **Troubleshoot > Reset the PC > Keep my files.**This will remove apps and settings, but keeps the customers personal files.

Please wait while we install a system update | Microsoft Surface Forums
August 13, 2014 - I've been waiting almost 2 hours now and I'm now going to use the power button and volume up key to reboot. Everything seems fine after I do this, but my question is.... Is there something wrong with my Surface? Why does this keep happening? How can I prevent this from happening again when ever the next firmware update comes out? Thanks! ... This is something that happens, even on desktops and just happened to a customer this week but so long as you wait long enough forcing a restart shouldn't be a problem.

Solved - Firmware update failure | Microsoft Surface Forums
December 11, 2016 - I've disabled it through group policy, but still no joy, the good thing is it seems to power down without a crash on restart but crashes on power up when "Please wait while we install a system update" appears, than restarts two more times and boots. I got code 10 on those firmware errors after resetting Windows, but after installing firmware manually it shows code 14.
