When creating a new Teams account, either within the app or via Outlook, I do not have the option to make it a business account. It always defaults to a private account which cannot even be used with the new desktop app (MacOS). On the mobile app (iOS), the account can be displayed but it has completely different features compared to what I'm used to.
I need to create a new team with a file structure, not "communities" that have basically no structure at all...
Super frustrating, since all MS documentation seems to be outdated at the moment (documentation still refers to creating a free business account within Teams).
To be clear: I don't need any of the MS 365 features expect for creating a Team with an email address and file structure. This should be possible without purchasing any subscription!

I've tried to download a "personal" version of the "New Teams" only to get the Work&School version over and over again.
Call me crazy, but shouldn't Teams be just ... Teams? Why make your users miserable with different versions of the same application? Who came up with that brilliant idea and why did the rest follow it?
Now, about the personal accounts, those are paying customers, so why does Microsoft treat them like garbage?
Hello, this is Emily.
What operating system are you using your Teams on? Windows/Mac/Phone/Tablet?
Microsoft has made some changes prior and now Teams for work/school and Teams for home are two separate apps.
If you are using personal account, you will have to use Teams for Home. You cannot add a personal Microsoft account to Teams for Work/School edition.

Hi Chery-Xs,
sorry but your message is a little bit unclear to me. You write "Based on my experience, it's true that use a personal account to create Teams free organization."
Do you mean you can create a "Teams free org" with a personal account or you can't?
I don't need a Microsoft 365 for business subscription, I just want to test MS Teams for Business. I don't want to buy it yet.
Johan.
Hi there,
Based on my experience, it's true that use a personal account to create Teams free organization. This way created teams only used for personal usage and it's also marked as a organization since you'll have the tenant information saved in Azure AD.
As you click the "For Work" option, suppose you need to have a Microsoft 365 for business subscription to register the Teams, it's Teams for business. The Teams for Business maybe meet your requirements.
Am I right?
