Beverly Drive is a left-leaning script font from Hoodzpah, Inc. inspired by Beverly Hills: from the posh Rodeo shop signs, to the kitschy apartment complex logos. This midcentury modern script features a low x-height, exaggerated cap heights, and stylistic and contextual alternates.

This was inspired by a recent trip to Yosemite, where we stayed in a vintage cabin outfitted with mid-century charm. When driving into the Sierra National Forest the first thing you smell is the dry sharp aroma of the evergreen trees. If we could deliver to you scratch and sniff fonts, these would smell like burnt marshmallows, campfire smoke, slightly mildewy canvas, cracked leather, a dusty sweaty hiker, and the sequoia trees of Yosemite National Park.

Morris Fuller Benton designed Century Oldstyle between 1908 and 1909. The design echoes the proportions of Century Expanded with its fairly large x-height, short ascenders and descenders, and large capitals, but Century Oldstyle has old style serifs.

The ‘fat face’ style, with its exaggerated strokes, was pioneered by typefounder Robert Thorne (1753–1820) in the early 19th century. Thorne’s innovation evolved modern type styles with strong contrast and heavy serifs.
