Hi, I am looking for MIDI pads to play percussion parts. I'm happy to just output MIDI and drive a VST with samples in it. I'm hoping for something with at least six pads and very good dynamic sensitivity. I considered the Behringer LM Drum as an inexpensive controller but reports are that the sensitivity is not very good. Any recommendations for new or older products that would do what I'm looking for? My use would be to create percussion parts using less conventional samples like tabla.

Akai mpd ? Korg pad korntrol?

Only has 4 zones, but the Keith McMillen BopPad has really good sensitivity so you can use sticks or hands, and can be configured any number of ways via software for your VST's. USB MIDI only if that matters.

I have a friend who is learning drums, and I think it would be awesome if he could practice his skills while using one of my drum machines/samplers (I have the 404mk2, volca drum and volca kick).

After looking online, I’m honestly surprised by the lack of options. There are a few units out there (like the Roland octapad) but there don’t seem to be a ton of options and they all seek kind of expensive. Am I missing something?
