I need a grinder and like the M12 angle grinder and straight grinder.
The reviews on the Milwaukee site are pretty bad -- it's fragile, runs hot, not reliable, stalls easy, and so on. Lots of one- and two-star reviews.
Is it really that bad? Anyone have these? Good experience or no?

Yes, very useful and have nothing but good to say about it. Use it all the time welding and fabricating. Throw roloc wheel on it and quickly change out various grinding pads. Plenty of power even with carbide burrs for anything I've worked on.

I have several, use them a lot. No troubles. In fact, they seem stronger than pneumatic die grinders run at less than full pressure. I know the reviews on the site you mention. I am not sure if there was a bad run at one time, or some people just don't know how to use tools. I am going to buy more of these.

I did the initial grinding with a 1/16" cutting wheel as usual, then the M12 with the battery shown above. MIG welds are much harder than TIG so I generally hate grinding them. I do welding and fab work and it's always in arm's reach. I don't use anything bigger than 2" flap discs/surface conditioning pads and never over speed #2. It will never replace a 4.5 grinder but man is it handy for cleaning up burrs from the bandsaw and drill press. Gotta use the bigger batteries on it too.
