what is the best Minecraft Space mod and why?
Kinda depends what you wanna do with it. Galacticraft is the old staple and simplest, lets you fly to the moon and planets no muss no fuss. Fun atmospheric system, terraforming Mars and such can be fun, but it's not super deep. Advanced Rocketry is complex and complicated and janky as fuck, but allows you to do some really cool stuff if you're willing to tinker with it. Think defining solar systems, setting how bright each day is by the intensity/number of suns, making moons/planetary rings you can see from the surface of planets, creating your own entirely custom planets with custom oregen and atmosphere and gravity etc. Then there's Warpdrive which lets you make your own flyable ships and fly through space. I don't know about any of the others. There's one on 1.16+ which is, as far as I know, just Galacticraft but renamed, but I forget what it's calling itself now. Used to be Space Bosstools. probably a hot take, but all current space mods are dogshit outside of modpacks. space mods can be great if modpack creators fill them with content, but as standalone mods, all of them have empty planets and boring progression. even modern mods like Ad Astra aren't going too far from galacticraft's boring planets. I guess mods are using the same logic as in Starfield ("our game is empty because real life planets are empty too!"), but I wonder if we'll get a space mod that's actually interesting to play on its own. So as we all know space mods are usualy pretty boring. Just build rocket, set up habitat on desolet single biiome planet (the fun part), find ore, build new rocket, travel to new desolet planet etc..
But recentley I saw this vid https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fqx-DgdeuMI and it made me wonder if there are any actualy good and long term fun minecraft space mods, which arent just a funny little adiction to a tech modpack.

In that video the ship was only able to “move” because of relativity, and any other block-based objects such as another ship would not work. Create: Liftoff plans to fix this flaw by using the work-in-progress engine Landlord which works around the problem by stitching small dimensions together at a technical level, causing far less lag than current methods. However, both Landlord and Liftoff (and Create Aeronautics, which is also related) are still in development and it will likely be at least a year until they are released in any capacity. I started tracking the projects in late 2022 and after a missed deadline they’ve stated they won’t set any more, so we won’t have any real idea about progress until the projects are on the cusp of release. Until then, the only major space mods we have available AFAIK are Galacticraft and Advanced Rocketry for versions 1.12.2 and below, with Ad Astra and Gregicality Rocketry for recent versions. AR requires messing quite a bit with configs and datapacks to get the best out of it, while Galacticraft and AA are your classic plug-and-play space mods which it sounds like you want to avoid. I haven’t ever tried it, but I think GR might be closer to what you’re looking for, as like all Greg-style mods it requires lots of technical work and can let you employ space lasers and Dyson spheres in the endgame.

Hey guys, does anyone know of any good space-based modpack's? I'm not talking about some kitchen sink with a space mod slapped in, I mean like full space-travel OR space technology is heavily focused on or required for progression (Yes I am aware of GTNH, I do not mind GregTech also. Just not GTNH).
You don't really *need* to start in space either but I am not opposed to it, I just want to be able to build space stations with an actual thought-out recipe system.
I have only played two modpack's that had space "thought out" in some way shape or form:
- Nomifactory GTCEU - Love Advanced Rocketry & this mod-pack as a whole but I've played it many many times now
- GTNH - Obviously there is good space travel, but I don't want to spend a bunch of time rubbing sticks between my ass to toast my bread
I am not opposed to playing older packs, however something newer would be nice. I also would like a addition of other mods too, and not just strictly survival Minecraft that's focused around a space mod (As I know there is a bunch of modpack's like this), and quests are always a nice addition
Does anyone know of any modpack's that meet these criteria's? I really just wanna build things out in space, explore planets and whatnot (in Minecraft, TBH I should just go place space engineers LMAO)
