We bought a dining table that is 4’x8”. The dimensions of the space are 9’x13’. That leaves around 2.5 feet on one end and one side. The other end and other side it’s completely open as it’s a nice open floor plan. I’m worried this isn’t enough space, but we love the table and wondering if it might work because 2.5’ is still on the low end of what I’m seeing is “enough” and since it’s an open floor plan it won’t feel particularly closed off.

Architect here. I can confidently say to comfortably seat 8, you need no less than 8 chairs. Spaced at a comfortable distance from one another.

Here’s a pretty reasonable diagram, although as minimums I would probably add 6 inches to all four aisles around the table and 18 inches on the kitchen side for the bar stools. The floor plan might give you a better feel for the real space requirement if you show the chairs pulled out 18 inches from edge of table to back of chair and assume a person needs a path 24 inches wide to walk past.
