I’m in Minnesota, home of the largest Somali population in the U. S. First of all, many fifth, sixth, and seventh generation Americans to refer to themselves as Swedish, Norwegian, or German, etc with the common cultural understanding that they are Americans with [X] ancestry. Second, it really depends. I know some Somalis who are well assimilated and some that are not. Keep in mind that the Somali civil war in the mid and late ‘90s is what prompted mass immigration to the U.S. so they haven’t been here that long yet and broader assimilation takes time. Thoughts? For me there were some things that surprised me. First thing was the fact that London has more Somalis than Minneapolis, Toronto and Columbus combined and there's still 10k left. Something like 1/6 western Somalis diaspora live in London, which is absolutely ridicoulous. I've been to London before but I didn't notice that many Somalis. I think it's just because it's a massive city but still. I didn't expect it to be that big. The second thing was a random town called St. Cloud. Almost 5% of the city is Somali. That means every 20th person in that town is Somali. WTH. That's crazy Third thing was Toronto💩. I really there would be more Somalis, since it's a massive city. Apparently not The last thing was our size. In total I counted around 700k somalis in the west. That's including all random countries. That's so small man. How are we that known with such small numbers? For reference, there's like 1,5 million pakistanis in the UK alone. That's already double us I would like to know what surprised you guys.
