This script runs the MiSTer Downloader under the hood. It expands it by selecting additional downloader databases. Update All has a Settings Screen that allows you to configure which databases and tools you want to use.

This is fine if you are downloading a single core, replacing or editing a single file or something of the like. Its only good for small changes and not for general updates. You still need Update or Update_All if you want to update the Mister framework or the Linux installation on the SD card.

Now Jotego has updated his cores to make update_all more efficient at grabbing his stuff. That said, update all is really useful. Dreams don't die! ... So I built a mister and after the MRfusion img was done, I then used the update all script, and not the normal update script.

It's important to update your MiSTer regularly as the framework, cores, and software is updated frequently with bug fixes, features, and new cores.

Python is a much more powerful language than bash and MiSTer offers now a better set of python libraries than it did 14 months ago, so I decided to do a full rewrite using these advantages. This allowed me to offer a UI that behaves better and is more informative while reducing dramatically the associated maintenance costs. The transition process from Update All 1.X to Update All 2.0 is as smooth as it can be.

Once that’s downloaded, it should exit back to the prompt, and we can now update the system from within MiSTer. We only need to download that script once. Once its installed, you can simply run the updater from the Scripts menu. Open up the System Menu (F12) Navigate to Scripts, then run “update” (use the cursor to move and press enter to select). It will download all the latest cores for you and keep your MiSTer updated.

January 6, 2024 - Thanks to this DB, this utility is now better integrated with MiSTer. You'll find this option on the Tools & Scripts menu. Here is the GitHub organization. Kudos to 40wattrange for pulling the strings on this! As usual, with each release, there is a long list of improvements, fixes, and other minor changes corresponding to mundane maintenance tasks. I won't go through all of them, but I will highlight some of the most important:

Useful if you can't connect your MiSTer to the internet. To install the same files that you get with Update All, use the same downloader.ini file that you have in your MiSTer at the root of the SD card.

September 30, 2021 - You’ll need to manually download and place it in the “scripts” folder on your MiSTer’s MicroSD card, but from that point on it will self-update. This is both the now-recommended main update script, as well as integrated into theypsilon’s update_all (more info on that below):

December 1, 2023 - Well part 1 of TLB is in bringing a bunch of new games to N64 on MiSTer FPGA and bringing the core that much closer to feature complete. FPGAZumSpass said he wanted to have one game running by Christmas 2024 and at this speed he may have ALL BUT ONE game running by Xmas lol Curious GAF...who's been playing N64 on MiSTer? Becoming my new fav way to play the games and an even bigger update lol

It is used by the update all script for the official downloads and can also be configured to download everything else. I am not sure for the update script but as the update all script is not official the update script can be used after a fresh install to update MISTer.
