Android: How to use MockWebServer for Edge-cases Test, UI Test, and Unit Test together? | by Weidian Huang | Medium
April 4, 2021 - MockWebServer will ask the dispatcher for the MockResponse in this case. The following is an example to return different responses based on the scenario input. After that, you can start to mock any API as below at any place of your application, in an instrumentation test or unit test.

Android Unit Testing API Calls with MockWebServer – Eric the Coder
You would load in a JSON file that you’ve hardcoded into your app, and enqueue that on an instance of MockWebServer. After doing that, the server will now know what response to return on the next request it receives. In my experience, you’d use this to test the parsing of a response into a data class (if you’re using automatic POJO parsing with Gson, Jackson, etc.), or your manual deserialisation of a response into said data class.

public void test() throws Exception { // Create a MockWebServer. These are lean enough that you can create a new // instance for every unit test. MockWebServer server = new MockWebServer(); // Schedule some responses. server.enqueue(new MockResponse().setBody("hello, world!")); server.enqueue(new MockResponse().setBody("sup, bra?")); server.enqueue(new MockResponse().setBody("yo dog")); // Start the server.

June 16, 2023 - 7- Now let’s write a dispatcher for MockWebServer. When we send a request to MockWebServer, we need to define the responses that will return when the related path is matched. Let’s create the following class under androidTest/util folder. Dispatcher is the key point to create edge-case of test scenarios.

How To Test API Response With MockWebServer Library The Right Way
June 7, 2021 - For unit & integration testing, Android supports multiple frameworks. Recently we were working on an Android application that was full of API calls. Most of them were nested or getting called at the same time. To achieve maximum code coverage, we decided to write test cases that include API calls. For obvious reasons, it's not a good practice to call the actual API for test cases. After exploring a lot of libraries, we found the MockWebServer library that helps in mocking a real server & writing API test cases.

June 30, 2018 - Testing on android is tough specially when it comes to instrumentation testing. Handling UI changes along with tons of network calls becomes a nightmare with Espresso. Thanks to the guys at Square we have MockWebServer that allows you to mock web request and helps a ton with instrumentation test.
