April 26, 2020 - As shown in the video, cut the chair stringers at a 90 degree angle at the foot of the stringer with a circular saw. Build the arms with the 2-1/2" long screws and exterior wood glue. Make sure the two arms are built the same but in mirror as shown in the diagram. Drill two 1-1/2" pocket holes on both ends of two of the 19-1/2" long 2x4s. Attach with 2-1/2" screws to the Adirondack chair frame.

December 11, 2024 - Is it an Anarondack chair now? They look great! ... They look great. But now I have to ask. Did you fill the screw holds on the arm rests before painting, but not the others? ... I purposefully left those screw holes on the back/seats exposed. I prefer the look that makes. ... Agreed. Looks great. ... April 22, 2025 - This chair is a combination of my original modern Adirondack chair circa 2010 and our current favorite Adirondack Chair where we went to a 2x4 frame and 1x6 design for durability and building ease back in 2019.

April 15, 2025 - Hi Paul, thank you for your message. This project is a Modification to Ana White’s Modern Adirondack chairs. On my modification, I only changed the seat style and the arm length, so that the seat doesn’t recline so much. There was a typo, however, the stringers should be at 33 1/4″ and attached to the back of the leg at 13 3/4″ just like Ana’s.

August 18, 2022 - We had some very old Adirondack chairs that just broke on us (in the middle of summer, no doubt) so I went looking for some new ones. They were so expensive I thought I’d make some but I have limited tools (circular saw, drills, etc. but no band saw or mitre saw or table saw).

June 2, 2022 - I fell in love with the modern Adirondack chairs, I love how comfortable and simple they are. But I wanted benches to go around my fire pit area. So I decided to modify the modern Adirondack chairs to make 6ft and 8ft benches.

December 29, 2023 - I wanted chairs that don't need cushions, because they would be out in the Florida rain most of the time. I search Pinterest before most of my projects and thankfully stumbled across Ana White and her free plans for 2x4 modern Adirondack chairs. I love Adirondack chairs, but the modern style of this plan really spoke to me.

September 15, 2023 - 6 Ana White Adirondacks replaced 6 crappy plastic Adirondacks. I changed it up a bit by attaching the arms to the front legs with the kreg jig and filled all the screw holes with putty before I added finish coat. Neat and clean looking. October 21, 2024 - I saw the modern Adirondack chairs on pinterest and decided to try them. I made two of them for my Lake cottage. I did use deck boards that I already had on hand for the seat and back. I'm pleased at the ease of construction and I do like the chairs. Thanks for the free plan.
