I totally get where you’re coming from - I’ve got two cats and went through way too many “wipeable” sofas that still managed to trap fur in every crevice. American Leather is a pretty great brand for sleeper sofas and the big issues that people have most of the time with a sleeper sofa is that it's neither suited well to be a bed or a sofa. American's mitigated some of these issues and they make a great range of sofas that can handle daily use. One thing about American Leather is you get what you pay for, and you will pay a lot: sleepers range from $2000 for a stocked fabric to $7000 for a custom leather. If you're going to spend the money then really understand the kind of fabric or leather you're buying and how it will wear over time. Hi, I purchased an American Leather sleeper sofa used, and my spouse insisted we get a new mattress. That being said, you can replace the mattress. You'll have to contact American Leather and they can ship out the new mattress to you. At the time (2024), I think it was like $200 per piece. So total was about $7XX for all three. They will need the model information to insure it is the correct mattress. I bought all three to replace, and only ended up replacing TWO of the mattresses. The top and middle, it was relatively easy as they are just bolts that need to be removed, and then replaced. I had also taken the entire sofa apart to move into a room that had a small doorway, so it was just a couple more steps. However, that being said, the last piece I ended up NOT replacing. It was the end piece (coincidentally the piece you see the most and gets the dirtiest because of being directly below the seat cushions when not in use. The reason I did not replace this is you have to remove the zillions of staples that adhere the fabric cover flap and the two fabric handles, and then restaple them on to the new mattress. It was just more effort than I wanted to put into it, personally. But it can be done. I will say, the new mattress is VERY firm. If sleeping on it for more than a night or two, I have to put a memory foam topper on top. Not a game changer, as it's used for guests and to sleep on when my spouse is sick. I really love the sofa and it will last for years upon years. The leather, even being about 9 years old, is absolutely beautiful. More on reddit.com
