But you can also get recessed mirrors that don't really look like medicine cabinets per se but still swing out with some shallow storage. Bathroom medicine cabinets have been a common element in every home I've ever had. Now we're building a new home and no one seems to use them anymore.
They always seemed like a great idea to me. keep things tidy, have easy access to things like toothbrush, toothpaste, contact solution, etc.
We are having some put in, but I'm curious - Why have these gone out of style? What has replaced them? What do you prefer?

We just built a house and had a hard time not only finding them but also getting them installed. Our builder did it but definitely made it seem like an odd request.

July 21, 2022New build home. Uhh, no medicine cabinets?
As a builder here in Florida I would never put a medicine cabinet in a new build. Nor do I see them in anything that isn’t 20 years or older. I’m pretty sure they are made to fit between 16” on center studs. A keyhole saw, stud finder, and cordless driver could easily accommodate this task. If you don’t have those tools get a handyman to install it for 50.00. If you don’t have 50.00- 100.00 what will you do when yearly maintenance things come up? Termite bond, pressure washing, etc. More on reddit.com

Minor rant here... I'm looking to do some upgrades to our master bathroom. It's not the biggest, so I'm looking for anything that can save some space.
I currently have a vanity combo that works, but is kinda dated in its look and feel. The mirror is on a hinge and reveals a medicine cabinet behind it.
I've always thought this to be pretty standard.
However... nearly every set I look like is something like this:

Why the hell would I want a fixed mirror and put up another cabinet elsewhere (in grand amount of extra space I don't have) when I can have both in one?

I think they need to fit between stud spacing which is 16 inches. that's pretty small. the current trend is big mirrors, bigger than 16 inches.
