I found a memory foam mattress from Classic Brands on super deep discount. I've never heard of them before and I was wondering if anyone had any info on the product or could point to some reviews?
Cool Gel Mattress
I see a good deal on a mattress ( https://www.amazon.com/Classic-Brands-Ultimate-Mattress-California/dp/B07BV2PTJQ?th=1&psc=1 ) and ours is about 5 years old and sinks in on both sides. Are classic brand mattress’s any good? Thanks in advance!
I tried to come here to find reviews for beds before I bought one and man, it is a hellscape of bots and sales people. The review sites all get commission so I didn't trust em.
I figured it might help someone else to hear a review from a regular person. You can see my reddit history, been blabbing about video games and nerdy crap for years.
I saw a slickdeals post about a Zinus sale ($540 for king size) so I just decided to buy one and return it if I didn't like it. It came 2 weeks ago and here's my thoughts so far:
The negative:
-Stink. Like everyone says, memory foam mattresses smell real chemically at first. This is true for all of them, expensive or cheap. I got one from Brooklyn Bedding last year, and my sister got a Helix, both are much more expensive and smelled just as bad. I didn't mind the smell too much, but my girlfriend with a sensitive nose was annoyed. We propped it against a wall and left all the windows open for a day and it was much better. We started sleeping on it and after a week the smell was completely gone.
-It's heavy as hell! I got a king sized, and I'm a 6' tall dude in decent shape and couldn't lift it. I had to get my girlfriend to help and it was still a struggle. Makes sense for how huge it is, but be prepared.
The positive:
-It's fantastic for side sleepers. We're both side sleepers and my girlfriend's back used to hurt all the time, but 2 nights on this bed and her back's been so much better. It's really plush, which is what I wanted, and still has enough support for when I sleep on my stomach. If you like firm beds, this isn't for you.
-The springs give it a good bounce compared to pure foam mattresses, which is nice. I don't end up feeling stuck or like I've sunk into it.
-That said, it avoids motion transfer, so when we roll around we don't disturb each other.
-It sleeps cool. The cool gel isn't a miracle or anything, but it stays about as cool as my traditional spring mattress.
-The cover is removable and machine washable. This is fantastic, and came in handy the first dang week when my sister's visited and her dog peed on the bed. Wont stop it from sinking into the foam if there's enough liquid (her dog is tiny), but still.
TLDR;
The bed is super comfortable and I love it. It's just as nice as my sister's $1200 Helix bed, and I like it a lot more than the $900 Brooklyn Bedding mattress I tried last year. If you're a back sleeper or like firm mattresses, I'd try something else.
THREE MONTH UPDATE:
It’s holding up well so far, but I was so excited not to be in the pain of my old bed that I maybe reviewed it a bit too highly. On my old bed, when I’d sleep on one side all night I’d wake up with sore ribs on that side of my body. It happens much less often and less severely, but still happens sometimes on this bed. I tried my sister’s Helix while house sitting for her and that was absolutely perfect. I might consider returning my Zinus to buy a Helix, but $1200 (I think $1000 w/coupons) for a king is more than double the price. I’d say to try the Zinus first to see if it works for you, and then if it doesn’t just return it and try the Helixz
