So let me clarify. I’ve got this shower valve with this cartridge. The valve body is from 1999. I bought a genuine moen 1222 cartridge however when I pushed it in(all lubed up and verified hole was clear), it slid in but was still sticking out a hairline. Say under a mm but just enough I couldn’t push in the copper U shaped stop. Have you seen this issue? I realize pushing on the stem pops the end so I pushed on the square plastic tool instead but it wouldn’t sit flush to the body grove. However a generic cartridge fit perfectly. First the issue was trying to pull that old thing out… now, this one goes in easily up until one point, where i cant clip the cartridge. Has someone experienced this before? Pictures pf the point where it stops are attached, and thanks in advance! 🙏🏻

Solution: the new Moen 1222 part is designed slightly different from the really old ones (same model#, my house is over 20 years old and this part had never been changed and started to constantly leak despite being fully closed). The back wall of the new model is flat. However, the older model had a beveled edge on the back. When you try to put the new one in an old housing, it does not go all the way in and the clip doesn’t slide down to safely secure it in place.

May 1, 2021 - Call 800-BUY-MOEN and explain the problem. They sent me a new, pre-redesigned cartridge, which solved the problem. I think my original did not have the O-Ring on the bottom of it.

After struggling to get inserted, but finally getting it done with the rubber pieces set in place, in their grooves. The shower will feed water, but down should be off and it thinks it's on, then rt comes on, up turns it off completely, and left comes on again.

Hey I'm installing a moen cartridge for the first time and having trouble with getting the retainer clip back in
I lightly toothbrushed the faucet with a mix of vinegar and water and let the water run thru to make sure the cartridge would go in all the way
But it seems like I don't have space to fit in the clip
It's supposed to go thru the slit part of the valve, right?
This is the same clip that was in with the old cartridge (also moen 1222), I unfortunately didn't take pics while removing parts
Should I cut the tile above? I feel like that's a bit extreme, but I think a plumber we had before knocked out a whole block in another shower, maybe because it was like this

Yea I can tell in your picture the cartridge is not pushed all the way in. Grease it up and shove it in. The flared pieces on the cartridge should be flush with the cut outs in the brass. Then the pin will literally fall into place.

Just did one of these two weeks ago. Make sure the stem is inserted just far enough. Once the stem is at the proper depth, that nasty little clip goes in fairly easy. Just be patient

Hi guys. Had to replace the shower cartridge because the valve wasn’t turning off the shower water.
My dad and I turned off the water line and replaced the cartridge. When the cartridge is in and the water line is one, there’s just tiny drops coming out the faucet. No matter how I spin the nob.
When the cartridge is taken out and the water line is on, the water is healthily spraying out of the pipe.
What are we doing wrong? Thanks!
