November 14, 2021 - For some other parts I would have waited for them to mail to me, but I actually needed the cartridge ASAP and was glad Lowe's had them. I showed them my broken cartridge and they gave me the replacement free of charge.

Tap seems to be dripping so wanted to know if anyone might know the cartridge number for this moen faucet. I think it could be from 2005 ish but not certain and would like to order a replacement before trying to take it apart.

Take it apart and take the cartridge to the big box store. They’ll replace it for you for free.

Former Moen engineer. Even in 2005 we made several cartridges. Pull the cartridge, call Moen for a free replacement, reinstall the bad one until the new one arrives. Or look up the design on their website and get the model number.

Hello, Thanks in advance for value you folks provide in this thread.
I replaced a Moen cartridge (96909) on single handle shower faucet with an everbilt, "shower cartridge for Moen; replaces posi-temp #1222).
That sucker fought like hell coming out and was super tough getting back in (only used little capsule of grease, which wasn't much).
I think I may may pushed stem in slightly when installing. Initially, water wouldn't shut off. Turned stem different ways, pretty much lost orientation if how it was supposed to be.
Experienced where water would only trickle out but now experiencing where hot won't shut off.
NOTABLY- the original (Moen) cartridge had 2 o-rings. This only has one.

Aftermarket cartridges are notorious for not working and leaking. Save yourself a bunch of headaches and Get yourself an oem cart.

I'm having the exact same problem. I bought a genuine Moen 12222 replacement and it is still dripping. Could you comment on what Moen sent you? Did you get it fixed, and any tips? I'd like to avoid paying $1500 to rip through the wall to replace the whole shower valve. :)
