Im also a hot sleeper, and tried a down duvet but ended up returning it bc I just got too hot. I recently got the THX 6A silk comforter and wow, I love it. It’s so silky, the fabric is buttery soft and it drapes over me as I’m sleeping. I don’t get too hot at night and find it to be just right. I live in a cold climate, so I might eventually get a second winter silk comforter and put them both in the same cover, for the extra cold nights that are below zero, but for now just one is perfect. I thought about getting the Mommesilk one and almost did, but I heard the THX has less silk, so not as warm, so I thought it,ight be better. The only drawback with silk comforters is they all have a slim profile, so you won’t have that puffy, down duvet look. Oh and you can’t wash them, ever, unless you get the lightest summer version from Mommesilk, that is washable. Answer from Kylie5678 on reddit.com

I think I’ve finally come to the conclusion that I am just a hot sleeper. My current duvet insert is supposed to be “all season” but I find it to be too warm. Does anyone have a Mommesilk comforter? Would you recommend? I don’t want to be cold, but I also don’t want to be HOT. I just want to be comfortable with keeping the blanket on me all night. 😩

r/Bedding on Reddit: Mommesilk lightweight washable comforter - experience with all season use?

Can I get some opinions on Mommesilk's lightweight comforter for year-round use? I don't think I can justify a $250 comforter for the 2-in-1 version, and even though I use a duvet cover I like that the comforter itself can be machine washed. I'm not an especially hot sleeper but I do feel like my current comforter (polyester down alternative) is kinda overkill in the summer while also not really being enough by itself in the winter, so I wouldn't mind an upgrade. Also, while I expect a thinner silk duvet won't be very puffy, I'm wondering if people who own one think it looks alright with a duvet cover.

I bought the Mommesil 2-in 1 and used it for part of the winter in a duvet cover. I kept room temps around low 60's F. I removed one layer and found It was just about as warm, so I keep the second layer in the linen closet for occasional extra-cold use now. One layer is perfect for year-round use IMO. I used a down comforter previously and found it difficult for regulating temperatures — I'd get hot, throw it off, get cold, pull it back on . The single layer of silk filling has been a new experience that I like very much. It has a good heft and stays planted on the bed and around you as opposed to lightweight down. It breathes, so it helps wick away moisture. I use the Cal.King size with a same size cover from Riley or Coyuchi on a queen size bed so it drapes nicely almost to the floor which is part of the reason it stays put all night long. It's not puffy but it looks plush.

I can’t give you a ton of advice, as I only just ordered my first Mommesilk insert a few days ago, but I plan to order a linen duvet cover for it and I think it will look fine, just not as puffy as a down insert. I also went with their washable version to start, as we have a dog and I wanted to be able to wash it in case of “emergency;” however, from what I’ve read it really isn’t good to wash it and I’ll be avoiding doing so if at all possible. My husband sleeps hot and our bedroom stays relatively warm no matter the season, so I think the summer-weight might work for us the whole year, but my initial thought if we need more is either just adding a regular blanket or buying a second washable summer-weight and layering those together. The 2-in-1 was a good value IF you know you’ll need both, but since I’m not sure and since I wanted the potential washability, plus a lower-cost way to give silk a try, I decided against the 2-in-1. If you haven’t already ordered and you are a Target shopper, they have the Mommesilk available online and it’s currently 20% off. That’s where I ended up ordering mine because the price was better, plus I get my 5% red card discount, and I know the returns policy at Target is easy just in case we don’t love it.

Hi! My husband sleeps extremely hot all year round even though we’re in the Midwest. We’re looking to upgrade our bedding to help him with a quality linen duvet cover and silk comforter insert. The insert will be a summer weight and then I plan to just get a smaller quilt for myself to keep warmer.

We’ve narrowed it down to these two lightweight/summer silk inserts. Does anyone have experience with either, good or bad? Which would you pick?

I know those silk duvets are recommended on here all the time. I finally used one last night (no cover, just with a cotton blanket to protect it for the experiment), and it still slept pretty hot. Last night was a cool night here, and I still woke up and cranked the ac down a bit, but was still hot! Slept almost as hot as my decorative polyester one that I can’t wait to toss.

Before purchasing, had emailed the company and asked what kind of cotton weave the cover was. And she couldn’t tell me … she thought maybe it was sateen… after lots of back and forth she says she can’t say for sure. Which I thought sateen was weird, but I thought it was weirder that they couldn’t tell me.

Has anyone found even the summer weight too warm?

Is the lighter of the two filled with long strand silk? When you hold it up to light, you shouldn't see clumps/clusters.

Is it box-stitched?

Asking because I ordered their summer weight one, described on website as:

"All Mommesilk products are made from ultra-luxurious 100% Pure Mulberry Silk. We use the highest grade (6A) long fiber mulberry silk"

But it was actually filled with lower quality "tussah" silk. When I contacted CS, they confirmed it is filled with tussah silk. Now I'm a little wary of fully trusting the brand, but really like the 2-in-1 offering, if it's what it claims to be.

Hey everyone! I am a hot sleeper and bought a ton of Sferra bedding on sale last month, including two duvet inserts. I cannot sleep with one, much less two because they make me so hot. Right now I am sleeping with just the percale duvet cover and it isn’t enough. So after reading the posts in here, I think I’m going to try a silk insert.

  1. They sure look thin though…will I even feel a difference having it? In the past I’ve used a medium weight linen cover only and it was perfect.

  2. Has anyone actually washed this comforter?

  3. Also, sizing question…see pic for my King duvet cover measurements, should I size up to the California King comforter? My cover only has 4 corner ties, will it stay in place?

I'm sure more experienced folks will respond, but I can give you my newbie silk convert observations. I don't have the Mommesilk brand, but similar ones with comparable silk weight. They are deceptively thin, my 'summer' or 'lightweight' is actually translucent held up to the light, but surprisingly warm. I can't compare with your linen example, but I think it's actually hard to overheat with silk- they breathe so well. The lightweight(2lb silk wt) I'm using now replaced a ~8lb cotton quilt + two thin blankets; I'm a little cool, but the 'all-season' was too warm despite still being lighter weight(4.4lb silk wt). I'm now looking for a quality cover that will give me a tiny bit more warmth. Rather than return the all-season, I am using it as a mattress topper (King, folded over, on a queen mattress)- that is doing the trick for now. While I'm not a hot sleeper per se, I do have bad hot flashes, don't like a lot of weight, so silk has made my sleep so much better as I am not flip flopping the covers all night. I purchased with the expectation they are not to be washed. u/SorcererLeotard and others warn against it, and I believe them. I've seen a few reviews reporting success; I suspect the lighter ones with more quilting to hold the floss may tolerate washing better. I would recommend sizing up if you like a fluffy look, but I think the King would be close enough. The cover I have now only has corner ties, so I improvised with binder clips at the mid-points, but I'm not sure I need them. Since my comforter has middle loops, I can add ties to the cover. I haven't seen any tendency to to slide or bunch, but my cheapo cover (300tc cotton) is a lot less smooth than Sferra percale. Sorry for rambling, I encourage you to give silk a try - I think you will be very happy!

As a fellow silk lover, I can absolutely agree with the others on this thread that silk definitely is wonderfully breathable compared to down or poly-filled inserts! :) For me, it was like night and day when I first used my silk insert---even when I got 'too hot' I wasn't really sweating much and it was more 'uncomfortably warm' than anything, so while silk can overheat you a bit if you get the wrong weight, it tends to be much more forgiving compared to other materials. If you sleep really hot or live in a climate that has a lot of warm days then the summer weight from Mommesilk or even THXSilk (who has a lower silk fill amount, which will make it sleep cooler) will usually work pretty well for most people. As for washing, you can but only super-gently and you can't throw it into the dryer, you have to air dry it which, if my memory serves, another user reported the summer weight took about 8 or so hours to fully dry, so it's definitely a bit of a chore to do so. The best option overall is to just never wash it and leave it in the duvet cover for protection. It's not as nasty as it sounds, honestly, since the way you're supposed to 'wash' silk is by putting it outside in the sun for a few hours on each side to kill off any bacteria/dust mites that might be living on it (they won't live in the silk itself b/c the fibers are pretty well hated by dust mites for not being very hospitable). Most silk inserts are usually 'spot clean only' or professionally dry clean them, but even that is a bit of a gamble since I've seen others on the sub have their dry cleaners ruin their inserts since not every cleaner knows how to handle silk inserts, sadly :\ As for sizing, I tend to recommend that you get a silk insert that's just a smidge bigger (dimension-wise) than your duvet cover to prevent sliding and to more snugly keep it in place inside of the duvet cover. The summer weights do have a bit of an issue with not staying in place as well at the top but a few bobby pins can help correct that issue pretty easily if needed and I've found (at least for my own setup) that all-season silk inserts tend to do better at 'staying put' than a summer weight does, but if you get an all-season that doesn't fit your room climate and it's too hot it kind of defeats the purpose, in a sense, you know? Hope this helps and if you have any more questions feel free to ask :)

I feel obsessed with the idea of getting the Cozy Earth. I have their silk pillow and it’s marvelous. So I’m imagining a comforter that feels like this. I know they curate the reviews on their website so you’re not usually seeing the negative ones. But I’ve also seen a really good reviews about Mommesilk. It gets cold in the winter here but in the summer, we don’t have AC and gets fairly hot. I like a little weight on me when sleeping. I also like fluffy but also like dense. I’m having trouble deciding. Anyone have any insight? as a sidenote, I also have a 45% off discount so it would make the king silk comforter with extra fill around $470 while the black Friday deal of the Mommesilk 2 in 1 is $250. Help please lol

It was so interesting seeing this comment because I am currently trying to figure out what silk duvet insert to get, and that is because I ended up returning the cozyearth silk duvet insert. The cozy earth insert isuter shell, and the duvet insert itself was wond incredibly soft with the silk oerfully comfortable and kept me cool (I sleep hot and have dust mite allergies, so I prefer a silk outer shell vs. the cotton outer shell. The price difference is steep, but worth it for me)! Anyway, I ended up returning the cozyearth duvet insert because after about a week of use, the duvet insert started to pill. Turns out there was a small tear in one of the stitching areas. I was a little disappointed and reached out to cozyearth support about the issue. Support was wonderful and because I fell well within the warranty period, they replaced the insert. The SAME issue happened, but this time in about 2 weeks of use. At that point I was fed up and ultimately decided to return the duvet insert and now I am on the prowl for a new one. It is worth mentioning that I used a linen duvet cover as well, so the tear wasn't due to any mistreatment of the duvet insert or an issue with it being used without a cover. I am also not overly aggressive with my bedding so the tear confused me! I still like Cozyearth as a company, and I own other products from them, but for me, the duvet insert experience wasn't great, and I wouldn't recommend it.

I’m late to respond on this thread but I have been reading in this sub for weeks and had finally decided to purchase a silk duvet to replace my very old feather one that I always had to shake out/reconfigure to even out the filling! I’m a hot sleeper and wanted a quality all-season option (I’m located on Long Island, NY. Cold winters and hot summers; my house has good central A/C though.) After much research, I waited for Black Friday and got a Mommesilk 2-in-1 king silk duvet and also purchased a pretty navy blue patterned Ralph Lauren organic cotton cover (and matching shams) for it. I got terrific discounts and quick shipping (the shams won’t arrive till week’s end.) I got it all set up (used the jelly roll technique to get the double duvet into the case) and I just LOVE it. Getting it in the case was not so easy; I can’t imagine taking it all out to remove one layer in summertime, and then putting it back together. I will cross that bridge when I get to it. In the meantime, I’m in my bed right now and it’s cold outside. I’m congratulating myself on pulling the trigger on this! Very very pleased with my choice.

They don’t make the OKEO-TEX info (the number) easily available. Just says they “have it” on the site.

Mommesilk shipped my new silk comforter in a flimsy bag that broke open along the seams and also was caught on things and or otherwise cut open in shipping. I’m currently 7.5 months postpartum and due to hormonal changes I sleep SO much hotter than before. I used to just have a cheap comforter from Amazon but I need all the sleep I can get with a baby and my sleep definitely hasn’t been great since I wake up sweating half the time.

My current thought is to get a silk duvet insert with a linen duvet cover, but I’m pretty new to the world of quality bedding so I’m not quite sure which brands to investigate.

A couple things for context:

-I have a king bed but my husband and I use separate blankets, so I’m thinking I’ll just buy a twin size duvet insert and cover to both save money and not take up a huge amount of space on the bed. I’ll likely take the duvet off and make the bed with our decorative quilt every morning so it looks nice during the day.

-I don’t have any particular budget, although ideally I would love to keep both the duvet insert and cover under $500 combined.

-I’m not completely opposed to buying a pre-owned cover on eBay but I would prefer to get one new if possible.

I’ve been looking at the Mommesilk summer weight insert and it’s currently on sale for $99 for the twin size which seems like a steal. Any thoughts on Mommesilk, or recs on a linen cover to match? I know linen typically shrinks after washing so I’ve been going sort of crazy trying to do the math on which cover I could get that would fit nicely after washing.

TIA!!

Oh, no! Postpartum is horrible from what I've heard, so I completely understand if you're at the end of your tether! I'll do my best to help you get the sleep you richly deserve as a new mom! :) So, if you want to investigate silk inserts first before diving straight into a silk insert + linen duvet cover combo that tends to be more expensive and which might add extra weight/heat to the situation that you don't need to start off with, then this is completely doable and definitely recommended for people in your situation! I am of the opinion that 'luxury' silk inserts vs cheaper silk inserts are very similar (almost identical really) in terms of breathability. If you get an all-silk 6A mulberry silk insert that's $1k it will certainly be much nicer and softer, for certain, but comparing it to just a regular tussah silk insert that is the same weight (ounce-wise, that is) will not give it huge improvements in the breathability category. For certain the 6A mulberry silk inserts will have just a bit better breathability and better hypoallergenic properties, but overall it would still be fine to go with a cheaper option! Cheaper options include silk inserts from places like IKEA, Costco, Your Moon or the various other cheaper silk insert options on the market. The cheaper ones will usually have crappier quality cotton outershells, though, and that might not be something you like (mine from Costco crinkles like crazy, came with a funky chemical smell out of the package and the cotton fabric is really thick and doesn't conform to my body as nicely as a thinner, softer cotton outershell would), so there are reasons that people go with nicer brands. I only have two silk insert brands to compare and that's my Costco SilkHaven all-season silk insert and my mom's Mommesilk summer weight insert. Both of them are great at what they do, no doubt, even if they're different fill weights, but the Mommesilk is definitely nicer quality (softer outershell, no funky smell, better quality silk) compared to the SilkHaven I have. I tend to recommend Mommesilk since I have direct experience with it and know from my mom's POV that it is everything she hoped for and more (which I'm glad of since she wouldn't lie to me about something that she didn't like, even if I had gotten it for her as a gift). According to her (and my stepdad) they love it and she swears by it (like I do) and refuses to get anything else but silk now, lol :D Like I said, there are a myriad of brands that will do well for you and if you want to dip your toes into it, then going with a cheap-ish one to at least start with would be wise and typically the one you'd want to get would be a summer weight (the less silk fill the better if your temps are fluctuating because of your postpartum). I think THXSilk has less silk fill than Mommesilk and I think Your Moon has less silk fill than either of them, too, though I could be wrong. Generally most silk inserts that are summer weight (Twin size) are going to be around 20-30 ounces of silk fill (30-40 ounces for King and up sizes), so if you can find silk inserts that are on the lower end of that (or less) then that will do well for you; you could even get a washable silk blanket, though those tend to be a bit more money. I think THXSilk has some that are around 8-10 ounces of silk fill in really cute patterns (pandas, cherries, sky pattern, etc), though they are smaller sizes than normal duvet covers/inserts (200 x 230 cm which translates into 78 x 90 inches, which makes it the same width as a Twin size, but about 10 or so inches shorter length-wise, so keep that in mind). There are a few other brands online that have silk blankets (some washable, some not) and while I would not recommend silk blankets with kids in the mix if you get one that's washable (and doesn't have silk outershell) it should work well for your situation overall, imo. And I absolutely understand about the math driving you batshit crazy! T___T I had a hard time of it trying to figure it all out when I first went on my bedding odyssey and it took a lot of effort to get to where I am now, for sure. It doesn't help that nearly every single insert is made in China and they use the bullshit EU sizing where everything is super-small and compact (IKEA sizing is a perfect example if you want to see how small their bedding is), so it takes a lot of effort to find not only a silk insert that fits what you want it to do but one that fits inside of a duvet cover's messed up dimensions. I ended up going with a Super King size for my duvet cover (112 x 100) and was lucky enough to find the SilkHaven all-season silk insert on Costco since it was longer than my duvet cover's dimensions and that was all I needed to prevent it from shifting. That's another important point I try to bring up with everyone: if you're getting a duvet cover for your insert it needs to be smaller than your insert---no joke. Especially for summer weights, since they tend to be so lightweight and have more tendency to twist and shift in the duvet cover because of that, even if you tie it inside of the duvet cover. All summer weights have this issue, so to combat it the best thing to do is just buy a silk insert that's bigger than the duvet cover --- preferably both length and width-wise for best results. You can get a silk insert that is bigger on one side (either width or length-wise, but I prefer length-wise because it's better to have 'empty space' on the outer edges of your duvet cover rather than right up there by your head), so keep that in mind in case you hit a brick wall like I did and you don't want to go the custom-order route since it tends to be really expensive. Another important thing I should also bring up about this: if you get a summer weight or washable silk insert you cannot count on the duvet cover shrinking since the point kind of becomes moot in the end if you wash the silk insert, too. The only silk insert that won't have this issue is one that doesn't have a cotton outershell, but that means it will have to be either polyester or bamboo, which tends to be a bit pricier if you get the bamboo/lyocell option. There might be some silk insert brands that pre-shrunk their fabric beforehand, so if you want to get a duvet cover for your washable silk insert then you absolutely need to check with the brand before you buy it to make sure it won't shrink on you. This should help you avoid frustration in the future, though (as I said) it is a lot of work and is a bit stressful, so hopefully you won't have too many stumbling blocks on this point, but it's always good to know ahead of time, imo. If you find a silk insert that has an outershell that is preshrunk or is bamboo/lyocell, though, a good rule of thumb (to be safe) for cotton and linen duvet covers that are not prewashed is to assume that it will shrink around 2 inches on each side and to figure the math out that way moving forward. So, using that formula, you would want to get a duvet cover that is 2" smaller width-wise and length-wise. A linen duvet cover that is 100L x 100W (for reference) will thus shrink down to 98W x 98L. Hope this helps give you a good idea of what to shop for if you want to get a duvet cover for your silk insert :) Places like Ebay, Poshmark and FB Marketplace are all great resources to find good quality duvet covers if you don't want to pay insane prices for quality brands and most of them are usually in pretty damn good condition so I'm of the opinion that if it's like-new and it'll be washed the moment I take it out of the package, why not, you know? Hope this helps and feel free to ask any questions about this; I'm here to help and make your journey as painless as possible, especially since you have enough on your plate already it seems and I'm of the opinion that every person on this earth deserves extra kindness since the world is not kind at all. Upping our bedding game. I decided on the Bare Home Percale duvet cover and now looking at inserts. I'm in this situation because I bought a lovely down alt comforter and my husband lost his mind because it was TOO HOT (it was summer weight). I thought maybe a silk insert would be the way to go. Help me decide which though.

  1. Full size (going into a Twin XL duvet, we need 2)

  2. Pets on the bed. Washable/low heat dryable is probably best if not at least heavily spot treatable.

  3. Under $150 each

I see Your Moon, Mommesilk, and many other less expensive brands. Will I screw myself if I get washable rather than Mulberry? It just needs to sleep cool. I'm considering waiting till Black Friday to get the most for my money and going one step above what I could today. I would appreciate any help.

March 9, 2022 -

Was suffering from terrible night sweats and read 100 posts in r/Bedding and settled on a king (104"x92") All Season silk insert. Unfortunately the duvet cover I already had was from Ikea and the insert does not fit at all. The good news is that the Mommesilk insert did help reduce the night sweats, but the bad news is that I still need a duvet cover. I'm hoping to spend less than $100 and want it to be breathable/cool so it works well with the insert. White or linen/tan color preferred. Washable. Has anyone found one that fits?

On another note I keep the room temp between 60 and 62 in winter and I have found that the insert is not quite warm enough. Can I put a blanket under or over the Mommesilk insert without affecting the breathability?

Thank you so much in advance for any recommendations!

Edit update: Thank you for all of the suggestions. I lurked on eBay for some time but nothing right came up. Searching around on Amazon I found a cotton duvet that looked great and fit the budget so I bought it. I've now had it a week and I LOVE IT. I wanted to update here in case anyone in the future reads this. The brand is Peru Pima Percale, the king size is perfect for the Mommesilk king insert and it was $110, so right on my budget. It is super soft and crisp and really breathable. Great quality for the price and I am really happy with it.

I'm glad that you went with the Mommesilk all-season insert! I absolutely adore my silk insert (all-season weight) and it definitely helped me sleep better, as well :)

Regarding finding a duvet cover for the Mommesilk... I would recommend you getting a King sized duvet cover that is the same dimensions or smaller (you'll want the silk insert to be bigger than the duvet cover, ideally), though it's kind of hard to find that for King sizes.

Ebay is always the first place I tend to look, and I def recommend linen duvet covers since they're the most breathable (with percale cotton a close second). Pre-owned is great, too, because you can find barely-used like-new duvets for a LOT cheaper than you can get them new.

Also, keep this fact in mind: You never wash the silk insert so it stays the same dimensions forever... but that's not true for a linen or cotton duvet cover. Once you wash them, they tend to shrink by a few inches, so if the duvet cover is a few inches bigger than what you need, then you can safely assume that nixing (to be safe) an inch or two length and width-wise from your duvet cover, you'll meet the dimensions you need. Finding a duvet cover that will perfectly fit your silk insert will be pretty impossible to do (imo) but you'd much rather have a duvet cover that's a bit too small than one that's a bit too big (because that will mean the silk insert will shift around inside like crazy).

As for using a blanket on top of the duvet or beneath it: you can absolutely do so! I actually have a really heavy cotton blanket between my duvet and my flat sheet during winter and it helps insulate heat a bit better when my room temps get a bit too cold. Throwing a blanket on top of your duvet or below it shouldn't create an unbearable heat trap depending on what type of material fabric you have for the blanket... but experimentation is an absolute must, imo, to determine if it helps. If you have two types of blankets (a cotton or a wool one for example) it would help to try both of them out to see which suits you best, in the end. But, yeah, my all-season silk insert doesn't do too well below 65F which is why extra layers for it in winter is ideal :)

Hope this helps and let me know if you have any more questions; but, overall, I think you'd be able to find a pretty good quality duvet cover on ebay if you're willing to do some searching and don't mind if one is pre-owned but in like-new condition :)

I recommend a linen cover. You can get some good deals at local outlets stores. My Nordstrom rack has parachute ones for 50-60 bucks which are not the greatest ones jugo good value at that price. I use a cotton/cashmere blend top sheet in the winter that I get for sale at Riley. I have a queen bed and was able to recently get one for $40 during their latest sale. I find it to be the right mix of warmth without trapping heat.

r/Bedding on Reddit: Silk duvet - which weight for hot sleeper?
January 21, 2024 -

After buying and returning 3 different down and down/feather duvets that were way too warm, I’ve decided to try a silk insert.

I live in a cold climate but I’m a hot sleeper. I currently sleep with 2 quilts - one is heavy cotton and then a velvet one on top, this is usually warm enough for me, but occasionally I do use an extra blanket in winter.

I’m debating between Mommesilk’s summer weight silk ($189), or they have a 2 in 1 option that includes a summer insert and an all season insert that can both be used separately or be snapped together in winter, for $269. Or, I was considering THXSilk 7A summer weight for $279.

Does anyone know if there’s a big difference in warmth between the summer/other weights? How do these brands compare in terms of quality?

Thank you!

For a silk insert I would highly recommend the 2-in-1 since it has the best customization options you can get, imo. It's really lovely in that you can use 3 options that will perfectly work for most situations/seasons: 1) the lowest weight (summer) insert that you can use by itself for summer/warmer room temps; 2) the middle weight (in-between summer and all-season weight) one for spring/fall or if you sleep colder than most or have chillier room temps; or, 3) both of them paired together for really cold temps during winter or ice-box room temps. Honestly, it's a great option for those that are unsure about what they need as well as people that have colder winter temps since both of them paired together will definitely keep you warm (though too warm for those that live in warmer climates, I'll admit). Overall, though, both Mommesilk and THXSilk are good brands and I will say that the THXSilk 7A inserts tend to run quite hot for many hot sleepers so I thought it might be wise to point that out----you'd probably do better with THXSilk's 5A or 6A silk insert since they'll sleep cooler all-around vs the 7A (the double-cocoon mulberry silk will have much more insulating properties than their 5A and 6A counterparts, certainly). As another user pointed out, most silk inserts will work really well overall and generally the lower the silk grade the more cold pockets will eventually accumulate for the silk insert which will either be a boon or an eyesore depending on how you sleep (if you sleep really hot then a lower grade silk or Tussah silk will fit you much better because of this feature). If, however, you want as much insulation as you can with a silk insert then a higher grade of silk will be right down your alley :) The biggest differences between Mommesilk and THXSilk is usually the silk grade and the outershell fabric. THXSilk has far more options (they have the lowliest silk grades and the highest silk grades and different fabric outershells for each) whereas Mommesilk is (I believe) 6A on all of their products (though I could be wrong about this) and the same fabric outerhsell for all their inserts. Personally I don't care much for fabric outershells being high-quality or not since it's kind of moot in the end if you're sticking it inside of a duvet cover, so long as it's cotton that's fairly breathable and doesn't make much noise it's usually A-OK by me, in the end; though, I understand how many would want a really silky-smooth outershell since it's very pretty and lends a higher-quality feeling to it, even if I feel it's kind of unneeded in the end. THXSilk has the lowest silk fill between it and Mommesilk so they will be the more breathable option between the two if you are going by that metric, but with the 2-in-1 their summer weight is pretty breathable by itself and the customization angle kind of is more of a winning combo (at least to me when compared against THXSilk if you're unsure what will work best for you). Whichever brand you go with in the end, though, both will be pretty nice quality overall for a silk insert and likely won't disappoint you when compared to a feather/down insert since they are a game-changer for most hot sleepers, in comparison, imo ;) Hope this helps and if you have any more questions feel free to ask! :)
