One that I found very disturbing that I never hear talked about is Red White and Blue from 2010. It’s less visually disturbing than Martyrs but by the end when you find out the whole story I found it pretty disturbing. And also if you’re ok with a documentary that starts out happy and gets very disturbing by the end, Dear Zackary is a good one. Answer from fsociety1990 on reddit.com

Horrifying, Disturbing, Disgusting.
A Serbian Film is one of the most violent, sick and graphic films that I have ever seen, but I liked it. There were scenes in which I will NEVER forget, whether I wanted to or not. Take EXTREME caution, the scene with the baby is unbearable and hard to see. Certainly a sensitive person will be sick and will not like or even see this movie. I feel a bit guilty for watching this all the way through but definitely an unforgettable film that will disturb any and everyone.

Perhaps no other film has brought attention to the New French Extremity movement more effectively than “Inside.” Hailed as one of the most disturbing movies of the 21st century, it follows a depressed pregnant woman who, after losing her husband in a car accident, is stalked by a mysterious woman intent on taking her unborn child by any means necessary.

3 days ago - In a 2004 Artforum essay, James Quandt labeled a cluster of early‑2000s French films "New French Extremity", noting their blend of arthouse style and unrelenting body horror. Films such as Irréversible (2002), À l’intérieur (2007), and Martyrs (2008) typify this period's formal experimentation and nihilistic violence. Irréversible became the most notable of these due to its graphic 10-minute long rape scene and graphic violence in a scene where a man beats another character to death with a fire extinguisher.

October 20, 2023 - Low-key it may be compared with the jump-scare slashers, but this Ealing classic from 1945 is genuinely frightening: a portmanteau collection of five ghost stories, of which the most disturbing is probably the one directed by Alberto Cavalcanti, about a mad ventriloquist haunted by his dummy – a superb premonition of Psycho. ... Wouldn’t harm a fly … Psycho. Photograph: Allstar/Cinetext/Paramount · One of the great event movies of the postwar era and an inspired exploitation nightmare that sensationally took Hitchcock – then in late middle-age – to the next level of cinematic greatness.

March 20, 2024 - It’s not overly violent, but In A Glass Cage (1986) disturbed me in a way that no other horror film has. It was so freaky and unnerving, and I think that it just felt so real as well. (There is also Megan Is Missing (2011), but that is genuinely my least favourite movie ever so it doesn’t deserve to get a proper mention from me.) ... Surprised no ones mentioned Martyrs yet. r/HorrorMovies on Reddit: What horror movie actually disturbed you in a significant way? At the very least made it hard for you to sleep that night?
September 7, 2024 -

Genuinely curious..I assume I’m in the majority when I say horror movies aren’t genuinely scary..we love the horror themes and tension..but does it truly disturb you? Does it keep you up that night at least? Do you ever think about it again? There aren’t many that come to mind for me..a movie I watched years ago called ‘The Snowtown murders’ stuck with me for about a week because of how real, bleak and stressful it was..truly cruel and hard to watch without excessive gore or possession or anything like that..idk if you’d even classify it as a horror movie..but again just an example of a movie that truly disturbed me at the time..would love to hear anyone’s opinion..🫡
