October 28, 2023 - In 2017, several dark cinematic projects based on Stephen King stories were released—Gerald’s Game was one of the most acclaimed King movies in recent history (currently with a better Rotten Tomatoes rating than another King classic, The Shawshank Redemption), and we all know about a fun clown named Pennywise and his little movie called It. But one Netflix original film that slipped under the radar that year was 1922, a bleak horror drama about a family living on a Nebraska farm in the 1920s (and based on a King novella of the same name). What starts as a disagreement between a husband and wife becomes a disturbing psychological study of a man and his son who make a horrifying decision, and then have to live—and die—with the consequences.

Whether it be a mix of disturbing themes, haunting visuals, or an excess of blood and gore, the odd moviegoer might not be able to stave off a feeling of nausea, and that seems to be the case with The Perfection, a new horror film from Netflix.

October 29, 2025 - Chances are, if you saw Tobe Hooper’s horror milestone at a young age, you remember it being much more gory and explicitly violent than it actually is. It’s understandable: after all, ‘chainsaw massacre’ is right there in the title. Admittedly, it’s an odd thing to describe a movie about a disturbed mama’s boy (inspired, like Psycho, by serial killer Ed Gein) who wears a mask made out of a woman’s skin as ‘restrained’, but revisiting the film today, it’s truly a masterclass of suggestion over graphic shock.
