At default configs, it's pretty much impossible to make an energy positive Boiler -> Turbine loop, which was done on purpose. The Mekanism turbine is much more suited to handling the ridiculous steam output of it's Fusion Reactor. Answer from Vyraal1 on reddit.com

What Produces the most Energy in Mekanism? | Feed The Beast
June 5, 2014 - Should pump out 300-500 RF/t but those setups can only really hold one rod so your fuel efficiency won't be great, but the fuel cost is still manageable. Edit:grammar ... Um... There is no Hydrogen Generator in Tppi... ;-; ... It might have been disabled/removed. Some people view it as an exploit, as it's energy positive and very easy to setup. ... I think the hydrogen generator is called the gas burning generator or something similar in the version of Mekanism in TPPI.

r/feedthebeast on Reddit: Extreme reactors: direct Rf vs turbine vs Mekanism turbine power
June 14, 2020 -

I am intending to use extreme reactors for the first time. I'm tempted to just do straight RF, but maybe the turbines aren't all that bad to set up and the power difference is vast. I'd appreciate anyone's advice.

I suppose advanced generator turbines would be a third option

Edit: My testing was done in E2:E where the effectiveness of ER was buffed. With default configs Mekanism is better than ER turbines. A list of the most efficient Mekanism turbine designs can be found here. Short answer: If you have the materials and are set on using an extreme reactor, the ER turbines are not hard to set up and are also a lot more efficient than the Mekanism ones for small steam production. If you are fine using a Mekanism reactor go with the Mekanism turbines. Note: Mekanism turbines are a LOT more OP if you use the ridiculous Mekanism steam generation methods The reason the ER turbines are better with ER reactors is because the Mekanism turbines need a stupid amount of steam that just isn't possible with the ER reactors. This is a fairly small turbine, but produces 5.85 MRF and uses 512000 mB/t of steam. The Mekanism turbines become much more op when you use Mekanism to fuel them. It's not too well known but the heat from the fusion reactor can also power the multiblock boiler, and it ends up being stupidly efficient. This is my setup in an E2:E world that gives up to 34.28 MRF/t with an injection rate of 6 by going the external boiler route. To give some context, an injection rate of 6 with nothing else will give 180 kRF/t. If the reactor is watercooled it gives 45 kRF/t passively and produces 67500 mB/t of steam which can give a further ~770k rf/t in a turbine. Making the relatively easy boiler for 40x the power output is pretty worth it. To go even further, a reactor with an injection rate of 10 can power a max size boiler to make 57 700000 mB/t, enough to produce 1.65 GRF/t. TL:DR Mekanism has a stupid power curve.

By default, a maxed out Extreme Reactors Turbine can produce ~25,000 RF/t (RF = FE = µI = etc.). That's the maximum number of blades (80) with the maximum steam input (2,000 mb/t) and a really good coil material. More power than that requires more Turbines. Generating 2,000 mb/t of Steam with an Extreme Reactor is really easy. Like, this one is a 5x5x5 interior, and with the control rods inserted 68% of the way significantly slowing down its usage. A good reactor design that only needs to generate 2,000 mb/t of Steam can be throttled down a lot and significantly save on fuel usage. If you un-throttle that example reactor, then it produces over 6,000 mb/t of Steam, so enough to run 3 of those maxed out Turbines for ~75,000 RF/t. All of that takes a lot of space though, so if that is somehow your main constraint and/or fueling a reactor is absurdly cheap, then going with a direct power reactor can certainly be better. Also, as a tip; Turbines are set up to be run in closed-coolant cycles. A Reactor turns water into Steam. A Turbine turns that Steam back into Water. Don't waste time or resources thinking about how to supply 2 freaking buckets of water to a reactor in a single tick. As for Mekanism, it has a reputation for being OP. I don't have much personal experience with its Turbine, but I am fairly certain it is off the scales level of absurd. I mean, it has a Fusion Reactor which easily produces multiple millions of RF/t from processed water, and the Turbine is set up to enhance that.
