ISO a suv with preferably less then 150k miles. I live in nj and need to find one for my lady. We’ve been looking at Hondas as well as Subarus. And advice on what’s the best bet crvs/pilot or outback/foresters? Any common issues with them? Years to avoid? Any input helps thank you

To those that want to roast me and tell me to do my own research, carry on...
To those that like to be helpful and are cool, I have a question for you.
I'm looking for a used car, somewhere around $5,000 range. I'm wondering what are some of the best cars (model and year) that don't waste any money on bells and whistles. I don't care if it's ugly. My criteria is the following:
-
Cruise control
-
Reliable (so probably Honda or Toyota)
-
Cloth seats
-
NOT rear wheel drive (I live in the snow)
-
Small engine (for good MPG)
From my research it seems like finding a Honda Civic/Accord or a Toyota Camry/Corolla are the best for my needs. My only problem is everyone knows those are the best so they are hard to come by for under $5K.
I am commuting to school around 84 miles roundtrip and wonder what suv would be best. I am looking for a used suv under 5k. I only care that it's reliable and able to get me from point A to point B. Any help would be great thanks.
95% of the time it'll be used as a regular car, but I need something to handle deeply rutted and potholed truck trails (Trabuco Canyon and Maple Springs if anyone is from OC). I'm not gonna be doing any desert roaming or anything truly offroad. I know nothing about cars so I want to just buy it and drive, not modify and swap parts. I've read good things about 4th gen 4runners and xterras but wanted to hear what you guys have to say! Thanks
Hey! So I currently have an 08 Mazda cx7 but it’s constantly giving me problems. I need a car to get to work and to transport my kids to the babysitter/school. Any ideas? I was looking into a CRV but they’re asking for more than 5k 🥴
Little backstory. My girlfriend was in a car accident and flipped her 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage. Well now she’s convinced she wants something a little bigger that feels safer.
So far we have looked at a 4 Cyl 2012 GMC Terrain but I’m not so sure it’s worth buying with the oil consumption and timing chain issues I’ve read about. She really likes the interior and looks of it though.
What would you suggest as an alternative for around the same price?
Under 5k? See if you can find an old Saturn vue with the Honda engine with somehwhat lower milage? (model years 2004-2007) I've seen some listed at 300k miles, but you can probably find one with 150k-170k for 4-5k.
Please take the time to flair your post accordingly.

Hi. I’m looking to buy a beater SUV in the next year or two to get around.(Unable to buy right now, long story)…Won’t be driving much, don’t need to spend a lot. Is there any older SUVs with AWD or 4WD that will last a while that comes to mind? It gets pretty snowy in my area. I was thinking a Toyota RAV4 or a Mazda CX-5? Something along those lines?
Mitsubishi Montero. Not the Montero Sport, but the full size Montero. Stout and dead nuts reliable. And they aren’t worth anything anymore. Cheap as hell to insure. If I had another parking space I’d add one to my stable.
Ford Escape/Mazda Tribute/Mercury Mariner (they're all the same car). The newer, the better. I think the last model year for this generation was 2012. I believe the hybrids are stupid reliable, but the regular ones will be great too. Rust is what kills these, so have it inspected.
Hi everyone! I’m starting the process of looking for a used car and would really appreciate some guidance.
My budget is around $5,000, so I understand I probably won’t get something with all the bells and whistles. My main priority is reliability, but I’d also love something that still looks decent (a little vain, I know), and 2010 or newer
Ideally I’d love to find an AWD SUV, but I realize that might be harder in this price range. I’m definitely open to a sedan if it’s newer or a better value.
A few questions I’d love advice on:
• What makes/models tend to be the most reliable in this price range?
• What mileage should I realistically be looking for when shopping around $5k?
• Are there any years or models I should absolutely avoid?
• What are some red flags when buying from a private seller?
• Any tips for negotiating or inspecting the car before buying?
For context, I’ve been browsing Facebook Marketplace and similar sites, but I’ve never bought a car from a private seller before, so I’m trying to learn as much as I can before committing.
I’d really appreciate any recommendations or advice from people who know more about used cars than I do. Thanks in advance!
So I'm a girl and I'm looking forward to buy my first car, and Im considering SUVs ,unfortunately, thats all the money I can spend now +/- $600 or 700 , intending to use it for at least 3 years.
so im looking at 1/ Honda pilot 2008 with 153K for $5400
2/ toyota highlander 2003 with 149K for $5700
3/ subaru forester 2010 with 179K for $5000
i live around florida so snow ect is not an issue
help me, which brand more reliable and what about the miles, what should I consider in each one, ect ? TIA
What should I get? Two main things I'm looking for is something that is reliable and comfortable.
I have a budget of 5k to get a car to commute to college. I know the budget is really pushing it, but it's all I can reasonably scrounge up, as a student. If you were in my position, what car would you get that would be the most reliable / least expensive to maintain?
How many miles is too many when buying a used car? 150k or more? What’s a cheap reliable used car 2010 or older that can last over 200k miles? I prefer suvs.
So the budget has wiggle room. I could swing 6 grand but prefer if I could get as low as possible. Prefer a SUV for the family since we already have a car. Was looking into jeeps as they seem kinda nice and cheap.I’m in northern Florida.
Minivan
At that price range I'd not look for any certain model, rather be open to anything and look for something that's had some love over the years. If you can make do with a 2wd that will help the budget greatly.
One mode that comes to mind are the early Toyota Sequoias, very dependable albeit thirsty vehicles. The 4.7 is a great motor but does require timing belt changes. They seem to have less of a Toyota tax than other models.
