A case for moms in pantsuits
Mother of the Bride - what to wear - help!
Daughter (the bride) refuses to let me wear Pantsuit as Mother of the Bride
Mother of the Bride Attire Help
Can you help us out by explaining why she's so self-conscious about wearing a dress? Does she want a blouse or top to tuck into pants, or a top that would be worn over the pants? Are you comfortable giving at least a general idea of her age and figure type, so that we have an idea of what kind of top might be suitable? Does she want to wear flowy pants or tailored ones?

I've seen posts here and elsewhere ranting about moms who don't want to wear a dress for their DAUGHTER'S ONE DAY (or son's).
My mom is a lifelong tomboy. When I was first getting into my wedding daydream mode before being officially engaged, she announced, "you're gonna be mad. But I don't want to wear a dress to your wedding."
Instead she found the loveliest pantsuit. I admit I had some powerhouse ROMPER DREAMS (or like an Easter blazer with power woman slacks) in mind. But Mom wanted to keep it matronly, with the sheer over-jacket thingy and cami + monochrome slacks. In fact, it was so much of that same Mother of The Bride ™️ piece, no one noticed or cared if the bottom was a skirt or her dressy slacks. We were also pleasantly surprised that David's sold MOB pantsuits! I had advocated for something from a department store for less money, but we happened to hit one of the 2023 closing sales, and my usually-thrifty mom even said she didn't mind spending a bit for my day.
MY MOM looked great, and even let H&MU do some light makeup and a little curl to her short hair. But I think this is also a test whether your MOB/MOG is truly being difficult. If you respond, "OK, let's find you an adorable romper or pantsuit!" And they scoff and say they just DoNt DrEsS uP, or still try and fight everything, you can rest assured knowing you really gave your toxic parent every chance to compromise. If they, like my mom, feel most comfortable in slacks but look REALLY GOOD, even wanting to see what the bridal boutiques sell over dept store sales, you've got a good one 🙂. And that's what matters.
